I think the Heat plan to use Duncan a lot this year. He might have a statistical good year in order to trade him.

Re: Offseason thread vol 9 - RUN IT BYK
During Kendrick Nunn's final season with us, he shot 42% from 3pt with at least four 3PA per game.
Second best on the entire roster that year.
15 PPG on 46% FG, 54% eFG shooting during his time here in Miami. Would have been nice to have someone outside of Jimmy who can create their own shot.

Where's he playing, PF? It wouldn't surprise me if Martin, Strus and even Robinson got time at PF this year.
Miami's very 1-3 heavy.... Lowry, Strus, Butler, Oladipo, Herro, Robinson, Martin and Vincent splitting 144 minutes a game which could be split up with 4 guys getting 30 minutes (Lowry, Butler, Strus, Herro) and 24 extra minutes for whoever else.. I'd also believe we'll see some Garrett here and there as they groom him as a bench defensive rotation player in the future.
4-5 only has Bam, Dedmon, Yurtseven and if Miami plays small... Martin, Butler, and maybe they roll with Strus and/or Robinson playing some 4?
I'm actually really interested how this team is going to play, normally you play your best players and this roster is very smaller players heavy. I personally don't think Miami needs to add a superstar although that usually always helps, if Miami could FINALLY add a PF with more offense then catch and shoot 3s, maybe this team would be much better offensively by being more dynamic without dropping much on defense.

One of my favorite Heat games ever. Duncan with like 10 3s, Bam we a 30 point triple double, Nunn with 36, Jimmy with like 20-18-10 or something. Game was wild.

I hated to see him go, especially at that price but I guess it made sense seeing as he missed the entire season and we have Dipo now

Can Duncan play any worse than last season? Kid has nothing to lose considering a down season & planned to be traded. He'll play loose & have a better season. After all he was still tied 7th in 3pt makes/% w/ Mitchell last season. I'm expecting a bounce back.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

I'm expecting a bounce back as well. I think he suffered a lot adjusting to Kyle and with Bam's injury. He might not start because that's probably Herro, but he will have a good year.

The thing with how less efficient he was last year, it’s kinda hidden by his lower mpg. His raw numbers (0.8 less fga in 5.5 less mpg) look he got slightly less opportunities and wasn’t as efficient. Sometimes that whole less shots and less efficiency thing can be a chicken and egg problem.
But the per36 and per100 numbers show a bit more. Per36 shows he took more shots per minute & was less efficient doing so. When you delve a little deeper and look at the shooting splits his percentage has gone down in all distance brackets except 10-16’ and 16’-3P, which he shot at some of his lowest rates.
Dude shot more, but couldn’t finish. So he got yanked.
He needs to have a bounce-back season, otherwise he does legitimately risk being out of the league at the end of this deal. His DWS is surprisingly positive, but that’s a function of who he plays with. He has a career negative DPM, and I feel an adjusted DPM would be even more brutal.

He's an older "young" player, he's already 28 and would be 32 by his next contract, he'll be either a vet minimum player if he wants to continue playing for the love of the game or out of the league.

If hisD was passable and he was a bigger build he could easily transition to a spacing 4, and have a role-player position well into his 30s.
Kyle Korver signed two multi year deals worth $10m+ deals each after his 32nd birthday. Korver was a negative defender for most of those years, his best was passable. Even his offensive value was at times only his gravity. Korver shot less, took less thees and up until his 28yo year generally had a lower 3p%. It’s possible for Dunc to have another 3+ years at high value & salary (TPMLE range) if he can improve his D and righten his shooting

Korver was just a better overall player then Duncan is and by far a more proven player. Korver also became basically an acceptable defender under Thibodeau, something Duncan is nowhere near currently.
I could see Robinson playing some 4 since Miami tried Strus at the 4, it shows Miami/Spoelstra is willing to give up rebounds and some low post scoring by the opponent for more 3pt shooting.
I'm getting tired of the gravity argument because there's a context to it, if a player isn't pulling in defenders then that should mean that player is getting more "good" looks at the arc and if they're an acceptable 3pt shooter(which is in the mid 30s) it should help the team since there are more good 3pt shooters in the NBA now since it's a skill almost everyone now works at. 5-10 years ago not many players were shooting 3s making running the price of 3pt specialist higher, now way more players have a decent 3pt shot. For instance 2012 there were 13 player who took 5+ 3s a game, last season 92 players did that, that right there should show that it's easier to find 3pt shooting(although not all were great 3pt shooters). More players can shoot the 3s in the NBA and with that, the premium you pay for a 3pt only skilled player should be much less then it once was. Spoelstra was just smart enough to get the most out of a single skilled player(prioritize more shots for them vs more diverse offensive players) and I think he could get great production out of those types of players where as other coaches won't prioritize the 3s from a single skilled player like he did, which is why I said let Robinson walk and go to the next single skilled 3pt shooter because they're out there for cheaper then the Robinson deal was.
Give me a 2 way player with a decent 3pt shot over a 3pt specialist nearly every time with the possible exception when you have an offense built around a Luka or Harden in their prime type player and even then it's nearly a toss up for me which is better.

I would assume training camp has started. Will be interesting to see the experimental lineups in preseason

The official training camp starts Sep 27th a day after Media Day.
Looking around, all I see is this from 2 days ago, seems to indicate training camp hasn't started yet...
