Hader comes in 1-1 game. Two on. Hit batter, walk, sac fly, SD loses 3-1 lmao
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Interesting article from July on Hader and a change in his arm angle.

Things did not improve for Hader today either.

I would say that I'm less than a casual baseball fan, so could someone explain the new 2 pickoff attempt rule? After the 2nd failed attempt, wouldn't that allow the runner to just take a massive lead?

What's the thought behind bigger bases? Less chance of collisions?

I'm a big fan of the pitch clock, hopefully pitchers just get in a habit of working quickly.

Wasn't in favor of banning the shift but maybe I'll change my mind once it's in effect.

15 second pitch clock bases empty, 20 second pitch clock runners on, and shifts banned. Going into effect 2023.

I'm for the pitch clocks, against banning the shift.

Think they are trying to bring more running into the game for excitement purposes. Just a guess though.

Depends what the penalty is for the 3rd pick off, I haven't seen that yet.

I think generally they are looking to stop the wasted throws over there and also, as Luke mentioned when I asked about bigger bases, they want more running.

The first article I read said any step off the rubber after the first 2 attempts resulted in a balk. But I just looked at another one and it says that a 3rd attempt can be made, but if unsuccessful, ot is a balk.

I could almost see this lengthening the games as runners try to goad the pitcher into using his attempts.

Seems good. Bonds had 64 HRs in his 138th game.

I think bigger bases are cool and would actually even advocate for going even further in some minor leagues and moving the bases closer together to see how it plays out. I think the ripple effect would be that fast contact hitters without a lot of power would all of a sudden be much more viable offensive players because they could hit infield singles and easily steal second. I think the ball-in-play, race-to-the-bag dynamics are much more fun than lineups full of guys trying to drive the ball. The dynamic now is that pitchers have to pitch around those guys and they have to be really patient, which leads to too many walks and homers, not to mention the obvious strikeouts because they're swinging hard instead of hitting for contact. That's the root cause of the game being so boring now, not the shift taking away hits.

Speaking of driving the ball, I think banning the shift is actually going to make the game even worse. I don't think they've thought through the side effects. It's short-sighted to think a bunch of ground balls are just going to turn into hits and make the game more exciting. In the long run, it will just reward hitters who drive the ball and have a ton of walks, homers, and strikeouts even more, and that's what really makes the game boring. I don't like all the strikeouts either and I want to see the ball in play more, but I'd rather have the low-scoring games at the expense of exciting offense than the 4-hour snoozefest of waiting for guys to hit homers in between all the walks and strikeouts. Hand-cuffing defenses is not going to fix the root problem at all; it's only going to exacerbate it by leading to longer games with the same issues because it's harder to get outs. And I think hitting for contact is exciting for offense and defense, even if it doesn't produce as many runs as the 3TO offense.

ETA: Pitch clock, whatever. Would like some minor leagues to pilot a "fewer pitches" approach and see how it goes. Try 3 balls is a walk and you only get one foul ball with 2 strikes, with the next one being a strikeout. The pitcher is supposed to throw where the batter can hit it, and the batter is supposed to hit it in play. You shouldn't need 8-10 pitches to do that.
