One More Move?
The roster is full. Training camp is on the horizon. We must be done making off-season moves, right...?
But, wait -- what about that one additional move?
You know... the one rolling around in the back of your mind?
Doesn't have to be a big move -- in fact, that seems unlikely. But... isn't there at least one chance you see out there to maybe...
...bring in either a really young player who maybe hasn't shown it yet -- but whom you think has potential?
Or
...find a way to grab that under-rated veteran player, maybe a UFA, who for some reason no one's quite paying attention to?
Of course, we have already got 15 players. But, let's say that we might be willing to waive Isaiah Todd. Don't want to be mean to the kid, but after all we could consider it.
&, if so, isn't there a team out there that actually needs to shed a player? Or a bargain UFA...?
I bet there is....& there's still time -- so, come on, what's your "one more move"...?

Re: One More Move?
Sweet talk Marc Gasol back from Spain. As high post offense player/coach. Championship resume, in Toronto and overseas. If he can tutor Daniel Gafford, Vernon Carey, even Kuzma, Rui, Deni, Jaime Echenique, anybody, then maybe we get added utility out of those players. In my opinion he adds a coach on the floor to help our young Bigs learn the intricacy of running that position. Which will be especially good when we land Victor Wembanyama.

Re: One More Move?
Along these lines, let us consider the Houston Rockets:
According to https://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/cap/, the team has 16 guys with guaranteed contracts: Eric Gordon, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Jae'San Tate, David Nwaba, Trey Burke, Alparen Sengun, Usman Garuba, Boban Marjonovic, Tari Eason, TyTy Washington, Kevin Porter Jr., Sterling Brown, Josh Christopher, Marquese Chriss, & Daishen Nix.
In addition, they also have team options on 2 other players:ex-Wizard Garrison Mathews & their 2020 R2 pick KMart Jr. That makes 18.
It's hard to imagine they wouldn't pick up Mathews' option. & KMart played 1650 minutes for them last year. He's been very good.
Not to mention that they also have Bruno Fernando coming into camp on an Exhibit 10 Contract.
Something's got to give, right?
Now... the Rockets, being a young team, don't have a big salary load. They could simply waive how ever many guys they need to get down to 15. But, surely, any team would rather get something for an asset than simply discard it.
Can you see "one more move" the Washington Wizards might make in a deal with the Houston Rockets?

Westbrook is he catches a buy out. I feel like he could play well with KP and Beal.
If not Westbrook. A consolidation trade is definitely something that could work.
Barton, Rui and Todd for John Collins.

I always felt that we should have kept one spot open for the BPA who doesn't make a roster cut, it wouldn't be hard to get a massive upgrade over Todd.

Re: One More Move?
I'd go for a young vet (24) who's apparently off Everyone's radar, Markelle Fulz. Trade him for Kyle Kuzma and go to a 3 guard lineup. If Orlando doesn't want KK, then get a 3rd team involved. Fultz is finally healthy, has a lot to prove, and he finished the season strongly. And mostly, he's a superior talent who everyone forgot. Also, he's from Maryland. p.s. I hope everyone's doing well here.

Interesting idea. It actually strikes me as something Sheppard would do. It's not unlike the Porzingis trade: find a guy with a high draft pedigree who has fallen out of favor, and pick him up on the cheap.
It would have made more sense if we did it prior to the KCP trade.

Re: One More Move?
I was going to post yesterday as getting RJ Hampton as a young PG as DWright as been on 7 different teams in 5 yrs and isnt going to be counted as a core player. Hampton is one of the fastest guys in the NBA and has avg over 20 mpg the last 2 yrs and is still only 21 yrs old. With Fultz,Suggs and Cole all PG's Orlando has and embarassment of young PG's. The speed and length of Hampton would be a complete change of pace to the PGs that the Wiz have now.

Re: One More Move?
The Wizards have one 2-way slot open. The other is filled by Jordan Schakel.
Our Exhibit-10 invites to training camp battling for that other 2-way spot have been reported as:
Makur Maker
Quenton Jackson
Davion Mintz
Interestingly Makur Maker is on the Wiz official team roster website, so maybe he has already won that job, if he develops I like his prospects as a stretch big to back up Porzingis.
Davion MIntz is a solid game manager. Nice get for the GoGo. But I'm looking at Quenton Jackson, and so are Sweet Lou Williams, Tari Eason, and Rico Hines of the famous LA Rico Hines open runs. The most competitive summer season pro pick up games out there.
Moxie and fire and defensive go-get-it. I'd like to see him work his way up to a role with the team.
Speaking of the GoGo, open tryouts are tomorrow.

Re: One More Move?
With this Wizards' roster at this moment in time, I don't see any point to a deal that trades some moderately useful role player for some other moderately useful role player. I think there are only a few teams still likely to want to do a deal and only a few decently impactful players readily available or recently discussed as being available for trade.
Teams that seemingly could still be interested in making a trade
Utah (out)
Lakers (in)
Miami (in)
Phoenix (in)
Dallas (in)
Indiana (out)
Charlotte (?)
Atlanta (out?)
Knicks (in)
I can't see much of an advantage trying to acquire the obvious players like Clarkson, Bogdanovic, Conley, Hield, Turner. The only players that would move the needle for me would be OG Anunoby or John Collins. It doesn't seem like Toronto would trade OG for anything other than a Godfather offer which seems unlikely from the Wiz. So the only player that makes sense to me in John Collins.
My dream trade would be something like Kuzma and Barton + an unprotected FRP (the soonest it can be offered). I'd make that trade straight up for Collins or make small changes and take back someone like Justin Holliday or Harkless if need be.
Why for Wiz:
1 Under contract for 3 years + a player option ($23 mil, $25 m, $26 m, $26 m)
2 Heavily under utilized by Atlanta as a 4th option or worse on offense -- So plenty of realizable upside for Wiz
3 Analytics LOVE him as much as they hate Kuzma
4 Collins would be a legit 3rd feature option for Washington
5 Young - about to turn 25
6 Clears the way for Deni to start at SF.
7 Clear upgrade over Kuzma and gives team a year to see how to play Rui in a forward rotation before fully committing to extend him
8 If you want to give up a bunch of picks for a player like Mitchell, why not give up one for someone like Collins
Morris - Wright
Beal - Kispert - Davis
Deni - Kispert - Davis
Collins - Rui
KP - Gafford
Why would Atlanta trade him?
1 Redundant/bad fit on offense along side Capella
2 Atlanta young core going forward requiring big pay -- Young, Murray (extension needed in 2 years), Hunter, (extension needed next year) Okongwu (extension needed in 2 years). Vets -- Capella (signed for 3 more years), Bogdanovic (2 years). Collins is a very good player who just isn't worth as much to Atlanta
3 Collins just hasn't been happy with his role there and seemingly has had discord with the team
4 Atlanta still does not have a full roster making an unbalanced trade easier to pull off
5 Atlanta really needs to improve this year and contend for a higher seed -- Veterans like Kuzma and Barton could really help with that.
6 Kuzma and Barton being on expiring deals is an advantage because it gives them flexibility going forward with all the money tied up in their higher priority players.
7 Atlanta recovers a good future draft pick helping replenish the picks given up for Murray

This is an exceptionally well-considered post, thinker07. Post more often, please!!
Do you think Atlanta would be interested in Rui rather than a FRP? I absolutely hate to see a team as deficient in talent as the Wizards trade away a pick.
Now... let it be said that even if Atlanta was interested in this trade, I don't think we're smart enough to go for it.

I would definitely do it (I don't think Ted would just before the Japan games). A complicating factor is that the Wiz and Atlanta are right at the luxury take line of $150.2 m (Wiz at $149.92 m and Atlanta at $150.963 m). Kuz, Barton and Rui cost $33.6 vs. $23.5 for Collins. To keep it close the Wiz would likely have to take back Justin Holliday and Harkless $6.29 m and $4.56 m. That would pull Atlanta JUST under the tax and push the Wiz JUST over the tax line (if my quick math is exactly right). So even with , the Wiz would have to make another move to eventually get below the tax line.
Still, I think a significant draw for Atlanta would be the FRP, otherwise all they're getting is flexibility and 3 expiring contracts. I just don't think they'd do a deal without it. I think they could get a better deal somewhere between Miami, Dallas, Phoenix
