Probably only two guys would be lost. Here are the rules for the last expansion draft:

1. Unrestricted free agents are ineligible for the expansion draft.
2. Each team can protect up to eight players. If a team has less than eight players on its roster to protect, it still must leave a minimum of one player unprotected.
3. The expansion team must select a minimum of 14 players and can select a maximum of 29 players overall.
4. The expansion team can select only one player from any one NBA team.
5. The expansion team is not bound to the salary cap during the draft. They can take on as many contracts as they like. However, once the draft is over, any players they've drafted and keep will count toward their cap (it should come in at around $31 million).
6. As long as the expansion team waives a player selected in the expansion draft before the first day of the regular season, the player's remaining contract does not count against the team's salary cap.
7. Restricted free agents drafted in the expansion draft automatically become unrestricted free agents.
8. Teams are allowed to entice the expansion team to select players by offering cash, draft picks or agreeing to additional trades in return.
9. If a team has a player selected by the expansion team, the team receives a trade exception equal to the player's 2004-05 salary. (This allows teams to replace a player lost in the expansion draft with another player of comparable salary.)

We would be able to protect 8 of them, and we don't have many long-term contracts. Something like this:

1. Butler
2. Bam
3. Herro
4. Oladipo
5. Martin
6. Lowry
7. Jovic
8. Yurtseven (because he is RFA, whereas Vincent & Strus are UFA)

I would not protect Duncan but would not offer any incentive to take him.

Id replace Lowry for struss. What better way to get rid of that contract early. He will help mentor the up and coming new team easy sell.

Losing Lowry to an expansion draft by unprotecting him would piss me off. He is a solid player who had a bad season amidst a lot of personal issues. He changed our play a lot though with forward tosses across the court. Do you even remember how slow we were before Lowry? I do.

Also, Strus is an expiring unrestricted free agent, so protecting him is essentially not protecting anyone.

I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

From what I’m seeing we actually got slower this season. 2nd to last in pace the last 2 seasons which is wild considering a main focal point was supposed to be getting Jimmy and Bam on the run this last season. A lot of those pitch aheads ended up being turnovers. We need that to be a thing next season, our 2 best players are dominant in the open court on the run.

2 weeks until training camp, 3 until our first preseason game I believe. We’ll have basketball to watch before we know it

Maybe it was chemistry.

preserving picks for future trade. Looking at long term improvement than short term upgrade.
If u don't want 2b here, the way things work, u don't like it, then don't b here. U have 2 stand on something. If Miami ain't standing on something, they become alot of these organizations trying 2 find their identity. This is the culture, bro -Wade

You don’t have to trade picks for a free agent

Wouldn't he have put us over the tax threshold for the dollars he signed? Miami is trying to stay below the Tax apron from what I am told.

Alright boyz got some saucce nuggets for yall*** straight off the presser!!!

Just got off the phone with my boy its been quiet around the Heat for the last couple weeks so he gave me some happenings.

1. Tyler Herro extension talks picked up last week, a meeting was requested by his Agent which was simply to talk about were the Heat stood and if they were going to allow his client to head into restricted free agency. There should be no more waiting on Miami's part and they should commit.
1A. Pat Riley actually was the one who led the conversation on this one from the get go. The exact conversation is unknown but the the bullet points were echoed by some of the other seniors the day after. Primarily they will pick up the extension talks after training camp. They want to see that Herro has worked on the weaknesses in his game and the challenges that the team put on his to do list after exit interview. They felt that although his regular season was nothing short of amazing statistically he did not back it up in the playoffs and was taken advantage off too many times. The challenge is still in place, they have a player who will be gunning for the starting spot just like him in Dipo in which he will be making 1/5 of value once his extension is put through, so he needs to show that he is indeed at a point to earn such an extension. Additionally he needs to beat Dipo for the spot and show the rest of the team he is worthy of such an extension. Miami will invest in him so as long he invest in himself, they are not asking for all his glaring deficiencies to all go away only that they are improved over time, and he continues to chip away at them.
2. Alonzo Mourning reached out to Herro yesterday about the cryptic tweet, and had a lengthy conversation with him. Herro told Alonzo that it wasn't anything to do with the contract extension talks or directed at the Team that it was actually towards his girlfriend. Alonzo explained to him that keep all your personal sh#t about your relationship out of the limelight it makes you look childish. There are media platforms now running away with the fact that Herro is upset with the team on his extension discussions based on that tweet, and Pat told Alonzo to talk to him about just trying to keep all these unnecessary cryptic tweets at a minimum, these are the things the seniors are looking at and saying dude come on really!!! This was not about controlling what Herro post but a lecture on maturing while living in the social media times where anything can be taken out of context.
3. Everyone is excited about the upcoming camp, there's a lot of cool new things that are going to be implemented and expectations of players improving and playing for their playing time hierarchy. There's going to be lots of competition.

I'm just amazed about your sauces position that he really had the full info of Zo and Tyler's convo about his wife that seems to be too personal to get leaked out. Not saying it's not true but the the specific and details is quite mind-boggling.

Full info? I'm sure that post from Herro got talked about by the whole organization and with that, those talking about it may have been given info on what it was and how it was handled internally. I'm not sure that only a few people were told about the situation because that comment taken out of context could cause issues with a lot of people in the organization.
