Damn, I love Giannis's reaction here. I am sure he knows who Pozzecco is but still, to just take this hug with such a smile and answer back happily and remain cool as you like. Great stuff

All part of a master strategy to injury Giannis's back

Bad news: seems like LUKA IS INJURED! Missed the practice with Slovenian National Team :-?

Mavericks star Luka Doncic sat out practice with the Slovenian national team with what appears to be an ankle injury, as relayed by BasketNews.

While the report itself hardly made it seem like anything serious, there is always a little bit of concern — and gobs of speculation — when a player of Doncic’s caliber is on the sidelines for any reason.

Per BasketNews, Doncic only watched practice, sitting with ice wrapped around his ankle. Slovenia is preparing to face Poland in the FIBA EuroBasket quarterfinals.

Doncic can be viewed in a video from Mozzart Sport taking in practice and walking with the ice around his ankle. If he felt any sort of pain while walking, it sure wasn’t noticeable.

EuroBasket play will wrap up in less than a week, with the Mavs and other teams set for training camp shortly thereafter.

It would feel right if Finland would send Spain home from this tournament, because of the case Lorenzo Brown, who isn't Spanish and has no connection to Spain. Lithuania would have won that game if there was no Lorenzo Brown. Finland could do some justice for Lithuania.

While that sucks for Lithuania and basketball in general that teams abuse the naturalized player rule like this, I feel like Spain is easier opponent for Finland compared to Lithuania and Finland actually has a chance to win now. Stylistically Lithuania would have been very hard opponent for Finland. It would've been like Finland-Serbia game against Lithuania maybe. Spain is the favorite against Finland, but as a Finnish fan I feel better about playing vs Spain than I felt about Finland facing Croatia, before the Croatia game.

I'm Finnish and I think that you are probably right. Maybe it comes from his dad. Lauri's dad is a legendary figure of Finnish basketball. Markkanen's dad played 129 games for the Finnish national basketball team.

The official way is through Courtside 1891 -> https://www.courtside1891.basketball/plans?utm_source=fibaweb&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=eurobasket2022_gamelinks

Another official way would be through the state TV providers of the countries in question. I know that the state TV of my country is going to show this game and that you can find it online in their website which is the following -> https://www.ertflix.gr/

I have no idea if the above website is working for those that are not in Greece, though. It could be region-blocked.

Too bad that Sweden didn't play in this tournament. I as a Finnish guy saw Sweden's level in the World Cup qualifiers and it was pretty good, especially in the home games of Sweden, in which Sweden beat Finland and Croatia and almost beat Slovenia who had Doncic. Sweden was the only team that beat Finland in the qualifiers.

Sweden would've been better than some teams in this tournament, such as The Netherlands or Great Britain. Sweden also would've had a much better chance to upset a team that is in general on a higher level than Sweden, which I guess is easy to say in hindsight that The Netherlands and GBR were lacking. Estonia was all right in this tournament, but I feel like Sweden would've also beaten them if all Swedish players would be healthy. Well we will see that match up in the World Cup qualifiers anyways.

I am still bitter that Latvia managed to lose to Bulgaria in qualification stages. Imagine Latvia (as was playing last two games in WC qualifiers) instead of Bulgaria. Porzingis, Bertans, Strelnieks, Smits, Kurucs, playing modern type of basketball (crushing Turkey 111:85), shooting 20/35 on 3pt, 31 assists, 10 offensive rebounds etc.

That is our famous "headless chicken offense". It has worked rather well on this tournament except for the Serbia game. Apparently Serbs were too physical and intimidating for our poor chickens to run at all and as we all know - a static headless chicken is not much of a threat to anyone.

I expect Spain to try pressure and bully us like the Serbs did and we might see the Head (headless)Chicken Markkanen bring the ball up more often than not.

The rules are the same for every team and have been like that for decades. You use it if you want it.

Lorenzo Brown is not even an end-of-the-bench NBA caliber player, if some national team can't handle him that means they aren't very good.

BTW I don't agree with that rule, and I would like to see some changes in the future. At least FIBA can ask to those naturalized players to have played a minimum of years ( three or more) for their domestic leagues or something like that.

Which is what makes Lorenzo Brown's naturalization all the more baffling.

That makes Lorenzo Brown's naturalization more irrelevant. He is not a transcendent player.

Whether or not he can excel in the NBA is irrelevant. If you put Domantas Sabonis on Spain's team instead of Brown, they probably lose to LTU, despite Domantas being a solidified NBA starter, just like 2004 LBJ and Wade struggled, even Tim Duncan had a hard time.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Yeah, I understand what you said, but the point is that Lorenzo Brown is not a game changer, not in EuroLeague neither. It’s not like they "signed" a great player to make the competition unbalanced.

Scariolo met him on the Raptors and that's the only connection that he had with Spain. With Rubio out and Sergio Rodriguez retired from the national team Scariolo and Garbajosa wanted a veteran PG to start for them...and that's why they naturalized Brown.

But he will not be part of the next big core from Spain, he is already 32 years old.

How can you sey hes not a game changer, when he literally won a knowkout game? Was JR Holden also not a game changer, just because he wasnt in the NBA? Bo McCalebb, Mike Tobey? Give me a break, honestly, there are worse guys in the NBA every year then the ones I mentioned, it comes down to many factors why one sticks and other doesn't, it is not always that the guy just flat out sucks. Obviously Brown didnt suck, he dominated the game with 4 NBA players on the court.
