What Type of Numbers/Accolades do you Expect Out of Tyrese Maxey this Season?

Post#1 » by Hussien Fatal » Thu Sep 15, 2022 2:19 am

I am certainly expecting him to improve even more this season which is scary because he literally got Twice as good in 1 seasons time doubling his numbers across the board.

Now I’m not expecting him to double his production again but I am certainly expecting more improvements out of him considering his elite work ethic.

My question to you guys is what type of numbers and achievements are you expecting out of this kid?

My prediction is he will be in the running for MIP and maybe even receive some all star consideration especially if the Sixers are a top 2 seed we could possibly see him, Harden and Embiid representing the Sixers all star weekend.

Numbers: 20-22ppg 4rpg 5ast 1to on high efficiency isn’t out the question for Tyrese, matter a fact I actually believe it’s very likely he puts up these type of numbers.

What are y’all expecting from this Kid?

3 level scoring. He’s been working a ton on adding a mid range game. I think his defensive impact will also improve. Those two areas will equal an all star nod this season. Morey thinks he is the key to getting over the hump this year. I agree with whatever that man believes. He’s the star behind the scenes.

Not much difference in his own numbers. He's capable of more if he got more shots, but with Harden, Embiid, and a better bench, there isn't a need for him to increase his volume much. Efficiency and volume might go up slightly, but there isn't much room for the volume to go up, and 43% on threes is really hard to improve on. I think he's more likely to end up below that than above it. Predicting 18-20ppg.

However, I do think that he will be a better player. That won't translate into way better numbers for him (maybe a bit better), but he'll contribute to the overall gravity on the floor such that everyone's numbers get better. And he'll have a better defensive impact. He'll make the Sixers better even if his own numbers look about the same. His advanced metrics will be better, because he'll contribute to more winning.

I'm looking for him to become something similar to what Andrew Toney was on those early '80's teams - a 3-level scorer who can get you points when needed, and who can take over games. Moses and Julius were the 'primary' options for that group like Embiid and Harden are now (obviously in completely different ways), but that Sixers team doesn't win a chip without the contributions of Toney. I know it's a kind of a rough comparison because of how the game has changed.

We know he will be good on the offensive end, but the most important boost he could offer might be to not be a net-negative defensively. If he can become a player who is not hunted in big spots and can rebound some, it will be do more to make this a championship level team than any offensive improvements.

I think the next leap for him is to get close to 20/5/5 and become an All Star. Those extra 3-4 ppg need to come from self creation. We should be riding him in the regular season to give Harden/Embiid ample rest. Agree with mjkvols that the most important development for him is being a neutral defender which I think he’ll do this season. He smart, quick, and hopefully strong enough now to hold his own on that end.

His ideal role is going to be similar to a Klay Thompson role imo. A steady ~20 ppg, play good defense on the other teams PG, and occasionally catch fire and win a game by himself.

I think 20 ppg with 4-5apg is viable, if he becomes our main guard scorer( and Harden would be more of a pg). I hope he can become our closer , and shoot more pullup 3s, maybe keep shooting at 40% clip, shooting 5-6 3s per game.

If this team wants to truly contend, Maxey has to be in the All-Star conversation.

Don’t agree with this at all.
Maxey doesn’t have to improve at all for the Sixers to be better. The bench, who absolutely sucked last year, has to!
I do believe Maxey will crack the top 50 this year.
I’d expect him to shoot pretty close to the same percentages. His scoring should go up from 17.5 to about 19.
His assist will most likely drop( with the addition of Melton).
He will probably make 2.1 to 2.5 threes a game.
I expect his min.s per game to slightly drop.
Overall I expect a slight improvement from him.
The reason this team is going to be better is the bench. That’s there biggest improvement. There going from one of the worst benches to one of the best. IMO.

Maxey has to be more aggressive when playing with Embiid and Harden. He may even need to challenge Embiid about getting more touches when Embiid goes iso too many times. Maxey has to take the next step as one of the team leaders and letting Embiid and Harden know he's a main focus of the offense as well. Too many times Embiid and Harden alienate the rest of the team when they play the two man game. I don't want to see Maxey deferring to anyone on this team anymore ,he has arrived as a team leader IMO.

Ideally, he becomes our closer and attempts more 3s & FTs. I don't expect him to ever become a two-way star, but if he can become an offensive star surrounded by defenders like Melton, Thybulle, House, Tucker, and Embiid then I think that's all we need.

And top 40 puts him in the AS conversation.

Right now the bench is Melton, Harrell, and question marks. And even those two have playoff question marks.

I do think having him be a closer is necessary. I don’t have confidence Harden can close games and the same goes for Embiid. It’s a lot to ask of him and I’m not sure it will matter because Embiid’s ego would get in the way but he’s the type of explosive guard who can get a good shot at the end of games.

I don't think the raw numbers will change much. I think a drop in his 3p% (if he shoots 43% again he would solidly be one of the better 3P shooters in the NBA which I don't believe, yet) will be made up by an increase in 3PAs and a slight improvement in FTr. Don't see any improvement in assists or rebounding. No accolades or all star recognition yet. That'll happen the year after. He will be a more impactful player in advanced metrics I predict.

He's in the absolute best position a young ascending player like himself can be in. A young, big time contributing player on an otherwise veteran team. He'll be good enough to be named an all star if the team is winning a ton of games.

24 points a game wouldn’t surprise me out of maxey. Even 25

Yeah, his numbers being similar would be great.

The improvement needs to come with him being a guy that can take over in critical moments.... Taking over quarters at times. He'll show he's a better player by being a release valve for Harden and Embiid.... Then taking over whenever he wants.... Hopefully

He’ll be the 2nd leading scorer on the team. Post trade Harden was at 21 ppg Maxey was at 18.7, expect those to flip.

Expecting that 3P% to come back down to earth a bit though.

Hmmm, you think Harden is going to only average 18.7 in his comeback year? I like what you said about Maxey, but unless Harden is super efficient with that 18.7, I'm not sure that'll be enough.

His game is not the same as the Strangler’s, but I can definitely see him taking over important stretches with his offensive energy if Doc is just willing to cut him lose on a regular basis.

Bullish on Maxey this season. Going to surprise many imo. All that work in the off season is going to pay off. Allstar season which may put them over the hump (2nd round playoffs).
