I see the argument for Jimmy. He has better rim pressure than Tatum and has a hero-ball mode that is just on that goofy elite level that only guys like Lebron/Kawhi/Durant can really exceed. But I expect Tatum to be the better player in 2023. The cracks in the Jimmy's armor are showing. The turbo button runs out sometimes. His shot has fallen apart. He's not a full-time defensive menace like he used to be. You always expect him to miss games.

Tatum is almost a decade younger. He's bigger and more talented. Tatum's main problem is that teams can really stop him from scoring at the hoop in the playoffs. Ever season he finishes around 70% around the rim in the regular season, and then watches that drop to 65% in the playoffs. His offense gets reduced to just being a pretty good pull-up guy, rather than an offensive player that defense can't handle. He has never been monstrously efficient on a playoff run. He's also not someone whose been a big efficient scorer in general. That TS Add score does not look like a star. He's a the perfect solid NBA wing though, and he is growing his game. He's only 24. But Tatum is missing something that keeps him out of the top 5 discussion, despite being the most solid and stable star wing in the league.

Is that true though? Jimmy has as many bad games in that series as he had great ones. Tatum was up and down too, they were both banged up and worn out. But it seemed pretty close to a draw for me and if anything the edge should go to the one who played better late in the series and hit the shots that iced the ECFs. And if we're projecting for this coming season I've gotta think JT is still getting better while Jimmy may have peaked.

One thing I've noticed doing these polls the last few years is absolutely no one cares what I think haha and people are going to vote how they vote. But I'm actually over here wondering how the guy who was 1st team all nba, finished 6th in mvp voting, led all postseason players in both total points and assists and vastly outplayed KD in a playoff sweep is now only the 9th best player and somehow worse than older guys he was already better than last year.
