We want to DO something, show the family we care. The GoFundMe gives US that opportunity. And that’s why Simmons and others share it. It’s basically a “send flowers to this address.” Would any idiot EVER say “Why do WE have to send flowers? Simmons should send all the flowers he needs!” The Tjarks family has said they are in a good place financially. That’s not what this is about. Maybe they’ll use it for the son’s education as a reminder of how many people loved his Dad.

It says it was to help him pay bills. The US health system is in a sad state of affairs when gofundmes are a regular way of paying for healthcare. I've seen way to many.

we want to help raise funds for him and his family to help with medical care, expenses, and other needs. Insurance only covers so much given the kind of treatments he's receiving.

Yea, it's for bills. If they wanted people to send flowers they should have given an address where the flowers can be sent to. Simmons should be taking care of the bills, not tweeting out gofundme links begging strangers to help his employee's family.

It’s pretty obvious he is. Listen to the podcast I posted

I'm still crushed. Dude was only 34 and had a young kid.
He lost his own dad at a young age and wanted to be a father so bad.

I've never met my father (my parents divorced when I was a baby, he pulled one of those "out for a ride and never came back")
and now I have my own teenage kid, so this whole thing is really reminding me to enjoy fatherhood. I knew that already, but now it's like go make that extra effort and have fun and enjoy him - except now he's a smarmy teenager and some days....

So yeah, hug your kids.

and the hate on Simmons is crazy. If you listened to that tribute pod you can hear it in his voice that he those other ringer reporters all lost a friend. Tjarks family will always be part of the Ringer or whatever Simmons does.

I think this is what makes the Ringer better than ESPN or any other sports media outlets. They show a personal side and those emotions really do come thru in the podcasts.

godspeed Tjarks, I will always have a soft spot for the Mavs and Luka now. I have a hunch we might see Luka with some Tjarks tribute down the road.

Also can the anti-Simmons crusaders go away?

We don't know what he has or hasn't donated. Its obvious the fundraiser is being promoted by people who want to support Tjarks family.

Doesn't mean Simmons hasn't offered to help either. You guys are just speculating. And its dumb.

Yeah. All pretty dumb.

For all we know, could it be a request from Jonathan Tjarks directly? It's not like his condition and subsequent death was a surprise. He's been preparing for it one or way or another for months.

And that includes setting his family up financially to the best of his abilities. In times like these, many people do want to do something, whether it's flowers, food, money, et al. And perhaps dying guys simply want to keep some of the burden off a grieving wife. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the FoFundMe stuff is largely Tjarks' idea.

Problem is that there isn't any transparency with what Simmons has done to help, and what the money from the GoFundMe is going to. Either Simmons hasn't done enough to help, or the money from the fundraiser isn't actually going to pay for bills like it was set up to do.

Would an itemized list be helpful for you?

And so the real problem is that Simmons hasn't done a good enough job promoting his do-gooder actions (if he's done any)?

Its none of your business what Simmons has done.

He doesn't owe you an explanation. You don't even know Tjarks.

Simmons is not even involved in the GoFundMe which was started by his friends a long time ago. He just promoted it.

The fundraiser was set up a long time ago and is going to his family.

Why do you care so much? Its honestly just weird how you guys are obsessed with Simmons personal wealth rather than the fact that man just died.

Truly disgusting.

Actually, it is my business because I donated to the GoFundMe under the assumption that it was going to his medical bills like the GoFundMe description said.

Not trying to derail this but I would think BS would be able to foot that bill...he's been with The Ringer awhile and they're a pretty small organization. That's like chump change to him

Pretty sure Bill Simmons is worth at least 100 million.

Still extremely sad about this. Can't wait for his kid to grow and start reading the awesome content his dad would write, looks like he already has a passion for hoops!
