To me the real question is how much better is Mitchell than Sexton? I do believe that Mitchell is the better player and fit, but the cost was quite high for a small upgrade. Moreover, Mitchell might want to leave for NYK in a few years, and that backcourt isn’t exactly large or defensively sound. We went all in for a chance to contend, Cleveland did it for a young core they are hoping to somehow make work.

If you are talking about the stuff around the Kevin Durant trade rumors as it pertained to Ben Simmons, no. The rule is you can only have one designated rookie extension on the roster who was acquired via trade. That's why the Durant trades for Adebayo or others couldn't work, because Brooklyn already had Simmons as a DRE who was acquired via trade.

That DRE player for Cleveland is now Mitchell. He doesn't stop the Cavs from extending Mobley to the DRE, but he does stop them from trading for another DRE player unless Mitchell is outgoing in the trade. Though I guess Garland is DRE too, so they are maxed out there unless Mitchell or Garland is eventually traded to make room for Mobley.

You sort of figured it out as you went with this response. My point is the limit is 2 and now they have 2. This creates an interesting and potentially unstable dynamic as Mobley develops.

It just dawned on me...did V8 just get bumped to reserve status with the trade for Markannen?

Too early to say. Depends on who else they move. I could see V8 starting at SF with LM at PF and Kessler at C. Remember, they are tanking.

Wouldn’t be the worst way to get the #1 overall pick. But seriously, V8 should spend time at SF. He is quick enough, bothers guards and wings, and is harder to defend with smaller guys. Playing big with V8, LM, and WK would be tough to guard but bad enough at offense to lose. Win-win.

Supposedly Zion Williamson is in great condition. I really hope it's true. I don't care if that gives us another competitor in the west.

Zion Williamson and his camp believe he has taken a critical step in improving his conditioning this summer. Williamson recently returned to New Orleans after spending two months in Fort Lauderdale executing a conditioning plan crafted with his strength and conditioning coach Jasper Bibbs.

“He’s in fantastic shape,” Bibbs told The Athletic. “He’s been committed to putting in the work day in and day out. I’m really proud of what he’s been able to accomplish. He’s a better athlete now than he’s ever been.”

Bibbs declined to specify how much weight Williamson lost over the summer, but he has said Williamson has come a long way since they began working together in January.

Williamson missed the entire 21-22 season following foot surgery.

“(His body composition) has improved at an extremely high level,” he said. “That’s all I’ll say.”

Bibbs previously worked with Donovan Williams.

"This summer, we came up with a plan," said Bibbs. "He committed to the plan. We wanted Zion to not only have a great individual season, but we also wanted to focus on what he could do to help the team win. We wanted to develop him to be more resilient and to better handle the demands of being a very explosive athlete at his size.

"We focused on addressing body composition — his body weight, body fat, etc. — while maintaining and improving flexibility, strength and power. We also focused on improving his overall fitness. The more weight he carries around, the more stress it puts on the body. We focused on aerobic and anaerobic basketball-specific conditioning. One of the main goals was to get Zion back to the same athletic ability he had before the injury. In the process, he’s improved athletically. I truly think he’s a better athlete now than he was before. Once you guys see him on the court, I think you’ll agree."

I get the skeptical, but who on Earth would be in a better position to know?

Anybody know what's up with Miles Bridges. I know he's got domestic violence charges against him, but now he's listed as NA when I look at him in Yahoo fantasy basketball. I can't find any report of a suspension or dismissal, but the NA would indicate that.

He is in very serious legal trouble and is not likely to be clear of it anytime soon. I doubt the NBA let’s him play this year.

He's still a restricted free agent

The NA just appeared on him. It has not been there at all. I think the NA just means he's in court so not available for the team at this time.
