Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc... 7.0
Chicago is pretty solidly a play-in team with or without Lonzo imo. I wouldn't count on DeRozan being a step below MVP caliber again, his season felt like a major aberration.
Even if there's no Lonzo all season, their floor is probably the 10th seed. Can't see them being worse than Charlotte, Detroit, Orlando, Indiana, and I have my doubts about Washington and New York. But also really can't see them topping any of Boston, Milwaukee, Philly, Miami, Brooklyn, Atlanta, or Cleveland

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc... 7.0
This is the trade that gets you 2 unprotected FRPs and more:
Lakers get Turner, Duarte, $25m TPE
Pacers get Westbrook, LAL27FRP, LAL29FRP, LAL23swap(to be used against any of Pacers picks), LAL28swap
If Lakers give up their future then they probably at least want a couple guys they can have locked in longterm with prime years ahead that both play defense and hit 3s.
What are people's thoughts on this?

Take out Duarte. The money savings from westbrook cost a first already. The remaining doesn't get you Duarte and Turner.

Duarte has to be in, that's the point. Lakers liked him and Jackson in the 2021 draft. Pacers ironically got both.
This is how Pacers get the big pick package haul.
It's not about Westbrook really. The focus on paying for Westbrook is unnecessary when you are dealing with a team like the Pacers that want their pick to be good this year.
The focus is the draft capital, they aren't getting this amount of capital from anywhere else for Duarte+Turner. It's a decision they need to make for their team. Do they want to improve their picks in 2023 while getting unprotected FRPs and a swap from 2027 to 2029? Could that make them a championship team at the end of this decade? Is that their best chance?

Then take out turner lol. That package is worth one or the other, not both imo.
Alternatively you can take out Westbrook and match Turner with bev instead and it shouldnt cost both 1sts

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc... 7.0
I just don't think any of these players warrant 2 1sts round picks and LA shouldn't give an unprotected 1st for the Pacers to eat a bunch of salary when they'd be better off getting players than money savings.
I just think LA is so much better off dealing with Utah because Utah has enough money to send back out but attached to players with minimal value so the asking price isn't this high.
But the Spurs should be smart and send Richardson/Dougie/Collins for Westbrook and one unprotected 1st before the opportunity is gone. LA should in the meantime be finding another vet to go into the created TPE that another team is willing to just give them.
But all these multiple unprotected pick asks are crazy to me. And I think LA should be willing to trade every pick/swap and go for it with Lebron/AD, but you have to get some return. If the return is this light, hold your picks and try again at the deadline.

Yeah that is possible.
I think this avenue is more interesting overall than the brick wall both teams keep bumping against.

You don't think Turner+Duarte is worth giving up the future? I think these two fit well with Lakers now and next 3 years.
Duarte and Turner can be around next 3 season for $30m. Means Lakers can be adding $11m MLE and $4m BAE each offseason for next 2 years. Keeps them out of the tax for that time too.
Duarte being cheaper than Hield by $15m really helps the Lakers for next season.

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc... 7.0
I think Orlando could put together an intriguing package for WB if it gets them a pick back.
Ross to Washington for Barton. Wizards save money and get some wiggle room with the LT.
Isaac to Utah for Bogdanovic. While Utah doesn't end up with a pick they can afford to take on a young guy with some potential left instead. Utah can also have the option of swapping Beasley for Harris if they want to save money at the expense of upside.
Bogdanovic, Barton, Harris (or Beasley if Utah prefer) for Westbrook and 1 unprotected 1st.
Lakers get all expiring's while adding a bunch of wing depth.
Magic get a rental expiring in WB and a unprotected 1st for expendable players.

Spurs could take Saric, Crowder from Phoenix for a TPE (gets them out of LT) then add Crowder to the Lakers package, pump Saric's value up in the RS and try flip him again before the deadline.
