What 2022 draft pick is worth DeMar DeRozan in a vacuum?

its hard to answer because none of the lotto teams would want him considering his age.

Depends on the team. Teams in the top of the lottery aren't going to give up their pick so the team that likely trades for him [If he were available] would be a team who thinks DD puts them over the top or a team who desperately wants the playoffs [I'm looking at you Sacramento, but they can't trade their 1st].

If it had to happen today, I'm guessing
- Stanley Johnson
- Saban Lee
- Rudy Gay?
- Nickeil Alexander-Walker?
- maybe Mike Conley in a combination "let him sign with a contender" and "but also tank" move
When’s the cut date? I think OKC is still at 20.

If Gay was really a "bad guy" last year, I'd want him off my roster, but that is a chunk of dead money next year and I'm sure Ainge hates dead money.
Would Conley give up his entire gtd money next year to get free? He can't make it back, but he's also made a ton of money. If he would, I bet they'd love that scenario.
I think its likely boring and its just those bad, cheap players. Johnson, Lee, NAW.

DDR and 2023 First Round Picks
OKC.............Youth Movement
Houston........Youth Movement
Utah............Youth Movement
Indiana.........Youth Movement
San Antonio....Youth Movement & Been There and Done That with DDR
Orlando.........Youth Movement
Sacramento.....Owes 2024 First To Atlanta
Detroit..........Should be in Youth Movement. Or at least not sending out any picks for DDR.
Washington.....Has Beal as the volume scorer. Owes 2023 First to NYK
Portland........Needs more Defense. 2023 First already owed to Chicago
Charlotte.......2023 first round draft pick owed to San Antonio
New York.......Sort of in a Youth Movement or at least reluctant to give up draft picks.
Atlanta.........Needs more Defense, not DDR
Lakers..........Been discussed before. Pelicans have option to swap on the LAL 2023 First. Possibly owes 2024 First to New Orleans.
Toronto.........Been There and Done That with DDR
Chicago.........NA (Not Applicapble)
New Orleans....They appear to have enough offense with Zion, Ingram and McCallum.
Minnesota.......2023 First owed to Utah
Cleveland.......Just traded for Mitchell. Need more of a solid role player at SF rather than DDR.
Clippers.........Owes 2024 First to OKC
Brooklyn.........Owes 2024 First to Houston
Denver............Owes 2023 First to Charlotte
Dallas.............Owes 2023 First NYK
Philadelphia......2023 first round draft pick to Brooklyn or Utah
Miami.............They already some older players in Butler and Lowry. Assembling the right outgoing salary won't be fun.
Memphis..........DDR doesn't seem like a good fit with the youth on their roster.
Boston............Owes 2023 First to Indiana
Milwaukee........Owes 2023 First to Houston
Phoenix............I have them needing a solid PG to reduce the minutes of CP3 more than they need DDR.
Golden State......Owes 2024 First to Memphis
Some of the owed picks have protections, but doing a bunch of work to navigate to a destination of possibly sending out a Lottery Pick for DDR plus what is owed for revising the already owed obligation doesn't come across as a smart move.

Okay, this then confirms that Utah values Vanderbilt over a protected pick, which I thought was the case. I get why teams want him, but he fits a rebuild and fits what Ainge likes in his centers defensively. That said, I still do not like the trade we ultimately took. Bogey seemed like he should get a late first attached to not-terrible filler (in the Suns case, something like Crowder + Payne or Shamet, with maybe a second or two included, as well). I wouldn't be surprised to see the Pistons flip Bogdanovic for a better package at the all star break.

My guess is phx offered Crowder + 23 1st + filler for Vanderbilt + Bog, maybe no third team wanted to give up anything for Crowder to facilitate a deal.

I think Utah would have wanted another future first to do that - from the third team - with maybe Phoenix chipping in a little value on top of Crowder. A deal made sense here, but it also makes sense as to why it broke down. Suns fans were on the money, Phoenix would want a defensive presence coming back as well as Bojan.

Tried to just estimate a guess so you had an answer. Reality is that I don't know which team would even trade for him. Where else does he actually fit and what does that team give up to salary match?
I think that’s about the right value but fit is a real question.
Fans will say he brings scoring and experience, detractors will say he is expensive, provides no spacing, plays no d and flops in the postseason.

Barton, Rui and Deni for DeRozan? Washington seems like a team that would shoot their shot on DeRozan.

That resulting Washington team looks exactly like what the Bulls are right now, but with worse role players.

Defense
Boston is strong on defense, but I don't know if they would accept/tolerate what DDR does and doesn't do on Defense.

Jae Crowder tweeted and deleted this. Doesn’t sound like he’s going to be at training camp.

Crowder, 23 1st (lotto protected into 2nds), Shamet for Gordon, Brown , KJ Martin and 2nds?
Rockets flip Crowder to recoup some of those seconds, Suns shed money next year and get a legit third guard and a bench 4 in KJ that has upside. Just threw brown in as a wingy guy that can defend but he doesn't need to be in here if they don't want him

Looks like the Cavs may operate as an over the cap team.
