The Mitchell trade and Rubio signing kind of solidified that. They were already at $110m Ish committed next year to only 6 guys. So adding in minimum roster charges, and they were essentially over the cap already with the MLE and BAE.

I'm good with it. Even if he doesn't work out as a starter, it's a very reasonable contract for a bench player.

I'm good with it. Even if he doesn't work out as a starter, it's a very reasonable contract for a bench player.

I think its good value, with Markannen gone and heaps of teams having either cap space or room to use the MLE I was wondering if he was going to be squeezed out. 3nD combo forwards are hard to find, the 2 Martins from Miama and Charlotte got more than this and they play a deeper position.

He’s gonna make $6m AAV on a $134m cap (at the lowest). That’s just 4.5% of the cap. This seems pretty fair. This year would be the same as $5.5m. Last year, it would be the same as $5m. He’s getting well less than a Cedi Osman, so this seems proportional to me.

What about this?

Suns send: Saric-Crowder-‘23 1st
Kings send: Barnes-Metu-worst of SAC-IND ‘23 2nd round pick

If HB doesn’t want to re-sign, then the Kings divide him up into Crowder and Saric while upgrading a 2nd rounder into a 1st. Both Crowder and Saric will be contributors on the Kings and will likely have good shots at getting paid in the offseason by the team.

Phoenix gets a really good fit with their starters in Barnes. Metu can come in and inconsistently play some good backup big minutes, but I would think he may become more consistent under a good coach like Monty Williams.

I have my doubts whether Metu makes the Suns’ roster, but would still take the deal. It’s debatable whether the upgrade from an active Crowder to Barnes is worth a first; it’s obvious that the upgrade from a holdout (or Craig as the next forward in line) is worth it, especially if the alternative is trading Crowder for picks and trying to add a key rotation piece at the deadline.
