Should we consider Jae Crowder?

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:33 pm

Crowder's name was mentioned a few weeks ago as a player the Suns are shopping, likely because of an expected reduced role but also because they are wanting to save a little bit of money. Now he is reportedly not showing up to camp (just like Kemba for us) He's 32, but he is on an expiring deal and he shoots the ball really well and plays really hard. Would be a good guy to teach the young guys about what it takes to win. He's been a role player on a lot of good winning teams.

Kemba for Crowder straight up works and saves the Suns a little bit of money.
Noel for Crowder straight up works and saves the Suns a little bit of money.
Diallo + CoJo works but they make a little more than Crowder so Suns save no money.
Diallo for Crowder straight up works and saves the Suns a decent chunk of money.
CoJo for Crowder straight up works and saves the Suns a decent chunk of money.
Killian for Crowder straight up works and saves the Suns a decent chunk of money.

So overall, he matches up super well with our salaries.

I dont hate the idea but we already seem pretty set at the 3/4 spot after picking up Bojan the other day. I'm not sure he'd be happy here with a reduced role either.

This is true for sure. I think if we added Crowder it could hurt Duren's chances of playing meaningful minutes this season, because it would essentially bump Stewart/Bagley to all the center minutes.... with BB/Crowder getting the PF minutes.

Luckily Livers is versatile and can play the 2/3/4 so I think he still finds a spot in the rotation for sure even if we make this trade. Burks also can play the 1/2/3 spots.

Where does Crowder fit? They're having a hard time fitting in guys as is.

Crowder is going to a contender. I see Cleveland as a fit.

Even if we could trade Kemba for Crowder straight up, and even if it makes us incrementally better this year, it takes away playing time from our young core and hurts our draft odds. We have enough vets already. Let the young guys play - that’s our future.

That being said, we could still get involved in a 3way deal and help facilitate a Crowder trade. We should be getting back picks/young players.

We would probably have to eat Shamet's salary to get an expiring Crowder.

Not worth it imo, but I like Crowder the player, he would be perfect for us, the problem is, Bey would go to the bench, and that's not a good idea.

Cade/Burks/Bojan/Crowder/Noel - CoJo/Ivey/Bey/Bagley/Stewart would be our lineup and we would go hard for the pla in. Start Ivey and Bey is more important than the play in imo.

Crowder is a great glue guy/role player for a contending team with a structured scheme.

We're not a contender. We have no structure. And we have no scheme.
