Time for the annual post declaring the Pistons website to be the worst team site on the internet. Which it is.

With that out of the way, maybe they'll put something up at some point in the near future at least acknowledging that today is media day and the start of training camp.

Weaver "Hopefully this year we aren't jockeying for draft position at the end of the season"

Casey "We have a lot of competition at all spots." Said it will be about productivity more this year, rather than letting guys play through mistakes."

It will be interesting to see if Casey's quote stays true at the beginning of the season. It's certainly better for the locker room and team morale if they players earning it in practice are the same players getting the playing time on the court during the games.

not really, a whole bunch of the usual cliches. it seems like guys might have more honest competition vs. pure development this season:

other than that, of the players i liked listening to livers the best. not that he said anything special but he was very articulate and energetic.

oh actually i did find interesting that casey said, "that was a great move and tom allowed us to bring in bojan". i've always wondered how involved owners are in the basketball ops side. like do they approve every trade/signing? is it just because we added $1.8M of cash into the deal? here's the quote:

I think he said that because of the money that was part of the trade.

1.8 seems like an immaterial amount for owner approval. Just stirring the pot as I wait for the season.

Might not seem like much when we're spending over a hundred million on salaries but any deal including straight up cash surely involves the owner since it comes out of his own pocket.

I'm more curious how involved Gores would be in other trades and signings

Saben would have been cut anyways and his money was guaranteed so I don't think that was the Gores sign-off as much as taking on $5M more in salary differential in the deal. Especially when it seems Kemba will get all his money in any buy out vs saving vet minimum off him in the least which was likely expected when that deal was made.

Did anyone find a recording of media day? Every organization seems to have recorded and posted their entire media day except the Pistons. We only have videos for Cunningham, Ivey, Diallo, and Duren. Then we have a bunch of quotes.

it boggles my mind. it's literally MEDIA DAY and there's not a peep on the team's website and just some random posts on their twitter account.

the channel that has the vids available is slowly uploading more: https://www.youtube.com/c/BradGalliTV/videos

last year they YT streamed live (and it's still available to re-watch) on Sept. 27 and then uploaded all the individual vids the next day. not even sure they streamed on youtube this time, i watched on their vimeo account and it won't let you re-watch: https://livestream.com/det/events/10628176.

i'm really hoping it improves in the future.

yeah, like each team is allowed to send out $6M in cash for trades every year iirc, is that assumed in their budget? does weaver have a budget under the salary cap, is his budget the salary cap, etc.

i'm sure every owner handles it differently and it depends on where the team is at but yeah, it'd be really cool to read an insider article detailing that process.
