Re: Toronto Raptors Training Camp Thread
I know the off season is officially behind us, but I was looking for any Christian Koloko coverage from media day and didn't see anything, but I found this and wasn't sure if anyone had posted this video on here yet. I knew that he had a decent shooting touch but this is impressive and it's against NBA talent. Hopefully he has a great training camp and earns a spot in the rotation!

Re: Toronto Raptors Training Camp Thread
The returns on internal/organic growth are usually limited compared to making a big splash with a trade or free agency, as we saw with getting Kawhi. But this team could have really exceptional internal growth, when it sounds like Dalano could break out this year, Scottie could get to an all-star level, Precious taking the next step, Gary taking the next step. Cumulatively the effect of that could make us pretty scary. This year's team has more room for internal improvement than any other team in our history I think. A bunch of guys who've gotten the first season with us out of the way, got to taste the playoffs, and got a lot of time together in the offseason.

Dalano Banton and Juancho Hernangomez should be impressing early as they both were playing in competitive games recently - let's see if they are still impressing as the other players get up to speed.

If the Suns coach hasn't bothered to reach out to Ayton since game 7, that's a bad look, as a coach/leader of the team. And now training camp is underway and you have unaddressed baggage lingering from last year - nice job. You're the 50 year old coach and he's the 24 year old player. You've got to initiate mending those relationships.

I And-1'd but in reality I only really see Scottie ascending to that level (ECF or higher) by maybe his 4th-5th year. The East is going to be tough af to come out of for the next several years -- Tatum/Brown still young, Garland, Mitchell, Mobley still young, the Hawks are still young. It's not going to be easy to ascend over those guys and Giannis will be no walk in the park regardless of Jrue & Khris aging.
I love Pacal & has absolutely become much better than I ever anticipated but I STILL think the Raptors will need another true star player to really get them over the hump and the good thing is we know our management is always actively looking for ways to upgrade the roster so there's time (although I think a decision needs to be made on Gary asap but that's a different topic). Overall though, I just think we're still a good couple years or so off from Scottie reaching that high. I think he's going to have reach an arguable MVP candidate level player for us to get to that point & I obviously don't think that will be the case by next season. But give it some time and I think in a few years we'll make the serious push.
With both Trent and Fred likely entering UFA this offseason we may have a very different trajectory by next season.
For now we get to see sophomore Scottie evolve into whatever he will be.
You say the east is thought - the nice thing is that this team is tough too

Watch how some people will go from wanting Precious to start to Koloko by end of season.

Is it crazy to have Koloko start, have him in the Capela type role.
Don't run anything for him, let him be rim protector, who'll take the occasional jumper.
bench mob of Precious, Gary, Otto, Thad, Boucher, Dalano - mix and match to keep guys fresh, but Precious and Gary can be the focal points in bench mob lineup.

For me, Capela is the perfect person for Koloko to start emulating in his early NBA career. Just like how you put it, Koloko can come in and protect the rim, rebound, set screens and let scoring come from rim running, offensive rebounds and lobs.

Re: Toronto Raptors Training Camp Thread
Koloko looked good in that video. Chances are he'll take the Birch minutes at some point (maybe even right away) and Birch will be the 3rd string center.
Don't think we will send Gary to the bench even though I don't like the starting lineup with Pascal at the 5. Gary's on a contract year, and benching him means he'll likely bolt in the off-season. If we prefer to trade Gary this season, then benching him may lower his value as well.
Maybe we experiment starting Gary, but sub him in early for Precious/Koloko.
