Dave was kicked out of Metallica in a very disrespectful way, they bought him an 80 hour greyhound bus ride from NYC to LA. He wrote this song on the way back.

I am sorry

I am angry and I am mad
Feelings so far away from sad
Death comes for us all
God takes what is needed
But I am upset about the fall
Much work never seeded
Words could never be heeded
The smiles rarely glimpsed
I am upset I never pleaded
I left over egotistical ways.
I am mad at god
Not giving me the need to plod
Take my words being unheard
Humble me to take the sword
Cuts from what is always stronger
Made me push forward and try longer
I am angry that they never listen
That my words felt like they had fallen
To nothingness and meaningless
Then my actions made it true none the less
Once again my hubris shows
I has bled through everything I’ve wrote

I am angry that i can not separate my emotions
I am mad instead of sad during this devotion
Clinging to what more I could of done

The distance made was real

monte, since you liked this song (one of my favorites) thought you would like a very similar piece from metallica (also one of my favorites), both written at the height of the cold war about a nuclear holocaust....this is Metallica at their very best IMO

I'm a lifelong jazz fan & aficionado. I don't see how thrash metal is close to jazz -- but so what....

When I say "lifelong," here's what I mean: I bought Miles Davis a drink at the Sutherland Lounge in Chicago when I was 15. Dizzy Gillespie -- a grin on his face -- tried to steal two drinks from me as I was carrying them back from the refreshment bar at a party for the playboy jazz festival (I think...) in 1958 when I was 16.

In the early 1970s when I was down & out while living in Paris, the great soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy put me up for a couple of months in his loft on the rue des Feuillantines.

If you name a jazz musician of any note who played in the '50s & '60s, it's extremely likely that I heard him live, usually more than once. The exception was Bird, who died exactly 6 months before I turned 13 (about a year before I started figuring out how to get into clubs...).

Being a jazz pianist, tell me if you know this guy:

Of course I know him--and I'm certainly jealous of pretty much everything in this post. I'm only in my 30s so I missed out on seeing a lot of these legends live. I did see Pharoah Sanders live here at Bohemian Caverns. One of my best memories tbh, he was incredible. Also saw Roy Hargrove before he died and some others. Unfortunately DC's jazz scene has died down quite a bit recently especially with the pandemic. Only a few clubs left.

Wiz'nasty makes an appearance in the Dawkins appreciation thread.

Officially good times ahead. I am 100 percent behind Dawkins. 20 year dream finally a reality. Perfect moves but he is spending.. our captured suffering of 15 years. The previous didnt know how to translate past suffering into true bball assets efficiently. Dawkins is officially synonymous with Wizardynasty..or longterm greatness, not to be confused with a crazy fatal boat accident... there is no dying with Dawkins. Basketball Wizardry is now in full EFFECT. That is the spell that has been cast for the next 50 years. Let the great times roll now.

Can't let the summer go by without acknowledging the 10 year anniversary of publishing my poetry book! (link in signature)



I loved to write in my teens through 20's and eventually wanted to put my favorite works into a collection. Nothing fancy, just used the self-publishing service that Amazon offered at the time. Felt really good to honor a time in my life when the pen was a much needed friend. The most fascinating part was that some of the pieces were separated by more than a decade and sometimes sounded like two different people. I could've left it like that to show how my voice changed over time, but ended up rewriting several of my older pieces (which I still feel was the right choice).

And just to make this more than a shameless plug...if you have a project you've been putting off or a passion you've been neglecting...get off your butt! Taking the steps to do something you've always wanted to do and walking away with something tangible that can trigger great memories is pretty cool. Every now and then I come across my personal copy when I'm tidying up and flipping through the pages always makes me smile. Almost makes me consider writing again...
