Re: Hawks Trade Moe Harkless to avoid Luxury Tax
It sucks we have to sell/trade second round picks due to financial concerns.
But this means one of Culver/AJ/Tyson is moving up the depth chart after only three days of Training Camp…

Re: Hawks Trade Moe Harkless to avoid Luxury Tax
No surprise.
It's two fold:
1. We were $1.2 mil over the tax and for that puny sum you want to avoid the repeater tax next season
2. It removes the 'over the tax restrictions' on any possible in season trades - it offers more flexibility in terms of what we can take back in a trade.
Hawks are now currently $3.3 million under the Luxury Tax. Can sign a vet min and still stay under the tax.

Franchises that think that much about money do not travel far in the POs.

Savings of millions of dollars in future years. Now, Hawks don't have the worry of being a repeat "over the tax" year. They traded a player that they hadn't really planned to use a lot for another they don't plan to use a lot. Nice thing is, new player is much younger and cheaper.
Watching film, this new Hawk is not completely useless. He has some useable talent. That 2nd round pick that we gave up isn't due to be paid off for some time. Our second round picks don't always make the team. I like our new Hawk!

A bit what I thought at first, but it would be better to have this team performing without Harkless and more time to young guys.
And instead of giving some Tax money, better share with the teams bellow the Tax threshold what the other will pay.
If they use this money next season to keep players or improving with trades, I'm OK with that

We need the younger talent to play and develop, but I'm concerned we will eventually need to pursue a legit frontcourt star talent eventually. I hope one of our own develop into a legit all-star talent, as they should, since we drafted them so high.D21 wrote:Years90Suns wrote:Franchises that think that much about money do not travel far in the POs.
