All corners of the world - Discussion thread

Post#1 » by flaco » Wed Sep 28, 2022 11:00 am

1. Subject to the rules to be set out below, players from the 1979-1980 to 2021-22 seasons will be available to be drafted. You can draft players that came into the league before 1979, but the season you choose can't be before 1979-1980.

2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations.

3. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.

4. Each participant has to draft
  • one player from the USA
  • at least one player from the Americas excluding the USA
  • at least one player from Europe
  • at least one player from Africa
  • at least one player from Asia and Oceania. Countries which expand on both Europe and Asia may count as whichever region you want. For instance, Russia, Turkey and Georgia.
We cannot select multiple players from the same country. If a player has multiple nationalities, you are free to select whichever one you want. For the purposes of this game, each player's nationality is determined exclusively by his wikipedia page. For instance, Steve Nash was born in South Africa to a Welsh mother and an English father. According to wikipedia, he's Canadian. That's all that matters.

Image

If there's no nationality in the ''Personal information'' box, then birthplace becomes the determining factor. One such example is OG Anunoby.

Disclaimer: All people are free to feel that they belong to whichever nationality they want. It's just that we have to establish a framework for the purposes of our game. I believe the wikipedia solution is the easiest one, otherwise we'll get lost in formalities. I opted for wikipedia over basketball-reference cause they provide more info regarding player's nationalities.

5. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected. If a player played for multiple teams in one season, he must have played at least 50% of his games in that season for one of the listed franchises.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to myself or another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by rankings followed by a four-team playoff tournament.

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before rankings begin.

Good question, I should have clarified this. Nationalities are listed on the right side of the page, under each player's photograph. It doesn't matter what the text says. All that matters is what's written in the ''Personal information'' section. For instance, Steve Nash was born in South Africa to a Welsh mother and an English father. According to wikipedia, he's Canadian. For the purposes of our game, he's only Canadian.

If a player has multiple nationalities, you are free to select whichever one you want. For instance, Ibaka is listed as both Congolese and Spanish.

I'll edit the OP to make sure we're all on the same page.

What about someone like OG Anunoby? He has no nationality field in the infobox. And what about USA territories, for example in Nic Claxton's case?

I say you have to go with Birthplace as nationality.

HArd to argue against that.

Hadn't realized that some players don't have a listed nationality. Let's go with Larry's suggestion. If there's no nationality in the infobox, then birthplace becomes the determining factor. Btw, Tim Duncan just became eligible in the Americas pool (non-USA). :)

In the case of Claxton, if wikipedia has multiple listings for nationality, then you can consider them as distinct nationalities. Claxton is eligible as U.S. Virgin Islander.

Like Fade I’d also hope for more signups.

Teams are just too stacked in shallow player pools.
