At least now the team values defense. With that starting 5, we can defend pretty well. Kyrie may be the weakest, but he's quite good when he's trying (ask Harden).

Seth and TJ haven’t been cleared so we really haven’t seen a full lineup even in camp which is pretty scary.

Didn't throw anybody under the bus, just constructive criticism. Everybody can see that the Nets don't have a system in place, they just rely on individuals carrying the team, and that's an indictment on coach.
Very little that I read from KD impressed me. It seems he managed to stay even-keeled without taking on any real challenges, something completely typical of him.
Specifically, his rationale seemed to be that because the team had some struggles, injuries and bad luck that it justified him making his trade request. Sounds like he completely glossed over Kyrie acting like an idiot about CV19, creating the ripple effect of Harden asking out. Because Durant had an opportunity to act like a leader and try to bring his friend in line, and he chose to ride the bus.
Also, if the Nets barely have a system in place, I think it's mainly *because* of KD&KI, not in spite of them. They want to overhandle and play hero ball, which directly impacts who coaches and who starts at PG. At the best of times it can indeed work, but it's also a handicap to this team, and something that's less effective in the playoffs.
I'm all for positivity, but I don't think these guys have learned the slightest thing from everything up to now, which is why I won't be surprised if they continue to make clueless tweets and create more drama down the line. Not that another pandemic is likely, but then, that wasn't the cause of Kyrie going AWOL three times the season before this, either.
This season hinges on
1) Health
2) Structure and discipline on both ends.
3) Nash not f*cking everything up
4) Kyrie not sabotaging this team for a third straight season.
- Every season hinges on health
- KD&KI are directly limiting the structure
- who knows how much Nash is allowed to coach to his potential even at this point (and I'm perfectly fine replacing him with a legit coach at any juncture)
- if Kyrie manages to avoid going off script or coming down with a major injury, it would be the very first time out of four seasons here
I'm still a Nets fan, and still curious how things shake out, but I have confidence in this team the same way I have confidence in a sports car racing across tightropes.

Re: ***Official 2022-23 Training Camp/Preseason Thread***
I am pretty optimistic about the season
Games aren't played on paper but ....
Balanced and complimentary roster
Kyrie & Simmons have a lot to prove & that's not a bad starting point when dealing with 2 guys whose talent is only matched by their egos
KD isn't the type to tank his value so will play like KD
No more "names" on contract just because of who they used to be (I really hated that)
Defense is potentially significantly better and among the league's best which will make a nice change
Only downside is that I really don't know about Nash
KD/Kyrie/Simmons is as as talented as it gets but if Nash can't control the locker room then forget about it
Edit: don't compare KD/Kyrie/Simmons with KD/Kyrie/Harden as it's very different

The latter would run you out of the building offensively but was too top heavy. Last season proved that being top heavy doesn't work; KD/Kyrie couldn't get it done post Harden trade. Nets have better balance offensively and defensively. I would say the first is better; I compare this Nets team to the likes of the 2009 Lakers or 2010 Miami Heat. Balance on both ends should help this team destroy other teams. But I can't get over what Harden/Kyrie/KD could have done if they all played 60 plus games together, sorry. We were all spoiled with stars the past couple years.

We've got a lot of offensive punch off of the bench when we get everyone together. If Warren is at least 80% of what he was before his surgery, he will be a huge factor in that 2nd unit along with Harris.
A high school coach would be able to get this team if healthy to a conference finals appearance at bare minimum. If Nash f*cks this up, that should be the end for both him and Marks.

Yes, and great post. KD IMHO continues to manifest a fundamental immaturity about the CF the Nets have become. He didn't shoulder any accountability or responsibility for last year's debacle, or indicate that Kyrie should bear any either.
KD is a great player, but he's not a leader and he conducts himself with a certain petulance. The bolded is spot on -- it's hard to be optimistic about this team given that they will once again be relying on him and the bozo Kyrie, plus the similarly immature Simmons, to lead the way.

I'd expect Joe to start. They just rotate guys in and out during camp. Royce is a good shooter, better than he gets credit for but next to Ben + Claxton - we need elite shooting.

38% from downtown with good volume. I think we can manage with Royce starting, but I agree with you about the spacing point.

Let’s go sign Harkless once he’s waived from Houston.
This roster looks so good, it’s scary how much we could get out of this group. Far more than with Harden.

We should target Favors as a potential buyout candidate for the Rockets, could easily contend as our starting/back-up Center. Homecoming of our 12-70 season pick...

The roster is honestly perfect. And there is no drama YET.
I think the main factor will be injury luck just like it was the last 2 years.
Need KD and KI to play 65+ games.

Good for him I guess. I always liked how he played for us, even through his offensive struggles last year he at least tried to bring physicality on defense.
With Nash still here he had to go though.
