Re: Jayson Tatum Thread: Part Deuce
Dude has the 4th highest career RAPM of any player since 1996 lol. Engelmann got hired by multiple nba teams to help build their analytics department, FWIW. Obviously he’s not the 4th best player in that time lmao, but it shows the level of impact he has on the game is right there with the elite of the elite.

Celtics: have Jayson Tatum
Celtics fans: but what about our third string center
6 more days until the season starts. What Comedian posted is Celtics porn. Can’t wait to get going.
What are the chances Tatum wins an MVP in the next few years? Pretty high I think. Giannis already has voter fatigue and Jokic will get it soon too. LBJ fading… Zion and Luka tho… still I give Tatum let’s say a 50% shot to get one over the next several years

It’s wild to me that some Celtics fans still don’t understand the impact Tatum has on the game lol, but I’m done arguing with them.
I think he could definitely win one in the next 3 years. I don’t think he will win this year, but there is absolutely a script for it to happen. Coming off a bad finals, after wrecking the first three rounds. Coach suspended, two rotation players out for a long time.
I don’t think the 27/8/6 60% TS I’m predicting is enough to get him over Embiid/Jokic….but if this team does win 60 games, and Tatum defends like he did last year? I think there will be a push from the media. I think that he finishes third though, which is awesome.

I didn’t realize Jokic is already a b2b winner. I guess voter fatigued takes Jokic out of the running this year but now Giannis is back in it? Kind of a silly way of doing things…
More importantly the only team I feel has a significant advantage over Boston when you compare their top player is Milwaukee. Every other team it is either advantage Boston or it’s a wash. Last year Steph outplayed Tatum in the finals so that is worth mention but I predict Tatum closes that gap this year.

Since coming into the league, Tatum leads the NBA in combined regular season and postseason minutes played with 15,020 minutes. Durable Deuce?

It’s been EXTREME since the bubble, to the point that people really don’t understand.
I’ve said it before, but since the bubble started he’s playing 500 more minutes then the next closest player (Mikal), and almost 1,000 more then the guy whose third (Jokic).
Then you consider workload, and it’s no surprise he just ran out of gas….at the worst possible time lol.

So this makes it 7th on ESPN/BR, and 9 on SI/CBS. Not bad lol.

Tatum looks a lot more comfortable driving to the rim, his handle is tighter and it looks like he added a crossover to his moveset

I don't know if it was intentional but I like that it's JT going after defensive boards so JB can leak out for easy transition points when opportunity presents itself.

I posted this over the summer I believe, but the numbers are legitimately incredible.

When he came into the league he was a smooth finisher. Gervin like at times. That part of his game went a little MIA but one game in, it’s back along with the absolutely correct decision making on when to take what shot out of his bag.
He also seemed much more intense than in years passed. By far this is the Jayson Tatum I’ve been waiting for.

Re: Jayson Tatum Thread: Part Deuce
Jayson Tatum had an incredible 2021-2022 season and stepped up his game in the playoffs to disrupt perhaps the best offensively-skilled forward in the NBA, KD.
While Tatum and the Celtics came up short against the Warriors in the playoffs, it cannot be overstated that the Warriors style-of-play is distinctively unique (small ball; no "on ball" screens; movement and cutting to the basket on offense; swarming-and-switching perimeter defense) when compared to every other team in the NBA, and is difficult to play against. It is too easy to criticize Jayson Tatum's NBA Finals' performance, while dismissing the experience gained from the Finals' appearance. Tatum and the Celtics now have this experience and now know exactly how to step-up the level of intensity when needed.
What small forward in the NBA would Celtic fans rather have on the Celtic roster than Jayson Tatum?
KD? Great player, but injury-prone, older, and has not proven that he can win a championship without playing alongside Curry.
Kawaii Leonard? Great two-way player, but is also injury prone and lacks leadership skills.
Andrew Wiggins? Perhaps, in my opinion, the best comparison to Tatum. Both are two-way players; yet, Tatum is much more reliable on offense, while Wiggins, an elite defender, may have the slight edge here.
Devin Booker? Still struggles to be an above-average defender.
If there is any little "tweak" in Tatum's game which I would like to see; it would be to see him attacking the basket more aggressively and relying less on the fade-away shot.
Lastly, other than perhaps Kawaii Leonard and Paul George, what other forward tandem in the NBA is "'as good'-or-'better than'" Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown?

Added strength and can’t be pushed off his spot/line anymore. He was a weakling when he first came into the league. Not anymore.
