Pouring one out for ratul tonight.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Agreed. Will be the last season that we have to do it against a completely unbalanced schedule as well.

Yep. This isn't a elite team, but it's still quite a good team, with a good record against an extremely difficult schedule. And good teams do win championships.

I also think that (with the usual caveat that the playoffs are a series of coin flips to which we retroactively attempt to assign meaning) we're reasonably well-built for the postseason. We have three very good starters. We have a deep offense that isn't reliant on one/two players remaining hot. And our bullpen is actually quite deep and mostly competent.

Or we could lose two one-run games and be done in barely over a week. Baseball is a dumb game and none of us should care about it.

Tampa losing just now in crushing fashion helps slightly with the series of coin flips.

If the Jays go 3-3 now, Tampa has to go 5-1 and Seattle has to go 6-2 to finish ahead of us for HFA. Will be interested to see if the Jays play their full lineup over the next week and try to go for it.

I still wouldn't. We need our rotation set for the playoffs; I don't want to play at the Trop any more than is absolutely necessary, but being able to roll out Gausman/Manoah/Stripling with a fully-rested 'pen trumps all other considerations.

Though saying that, I'd say that our odds of facing Seattle are now materially higher than our odds of facing Tampa, and I'm morbidly curious what the Mariners/Jays fan balance would be in Safeco.

I agree. There's no way I'm starting Manoah against the Orioles next week for example regardless of whether that game has any meaning (Manoah, Stripling, and Gausman should each be making their final starts of the regular season this weekend). I was thinking more along the lines of whether the Jays are going to give guys who have been injured like Springer, Teoscar and Kirk (and even Vlad, Chapman, and Bichette) a few days off.

hosting the mariners is my personal preference tbh. the thought of berrios getting torched by the ghost of carlos santana, who might as well be the guitarist at this point, or like **** abe toro or some scrub in the 2nd inning of game 3 is nauseating. but i'd like to imagine we wouldn't have to get to that point and can rest our guys while still securing HFA. actually being able to attend the game too is another reason.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Safeco would be a madhouse. My conspiracy brain can imagine the Washington Gov't scheduling a bridge for maintenance that weekend. lol.

But yeah, honestly what I care about most now is finishing ahead of Tampa. Finishing ahead of Seattle would be nice as well, but not playing at the Trop is the goal.

Probably sold out. Although there do seem to be some tickets available for Sunday's game left.

It's official! Boston-Tampa game just got called. Boston wins.

That locks us in to a Mariners @ Jays Wild Card series. =D

I've only ever seen the Jays play the Mariners at our West Coast home field. So excited to see them play at the Dome on Saturday.

no real surprise here, as he motions to the pen for the lefty, tim mayza, to face paul goldschmidt with 2 on and 2 out in game 6 of the world series, with the jays up 1
