Did he end up accepting the qualifying offer or what? I thought someone here said that he had until October 1st to accept it. I went looking around for news on this and didn't find anything, but I did find this:

Shameless Lakers fans already begging for Lakers to try and sign him. Lol, but they probably don't understand how RFA works, or that Miles gonna be in jail or suspended.

He'll end up on the Lakers sooner or later though. Everyone knows it.

How about, we let Lakers sign him to whatever they can afford and we promise not to match, all for the paltry sum of an unprotected 1st in the post LeBron years.

good question. is it indefinitely? or does he become a UFA on july 1st 2023?

the former implies any RFA can decide to sit out a year, if they dont want to play for a team, then become a UFA the following summer. hard to believe owners would allow that loophole. its unprecedented, as far as i know, but still not something the league would have overlooked.

would be perfect for a young superstar on a bad team who wants to join a big market contender, who also just got injured late in season heading into RFA. imagine embiid, simmons, zion, leonard type who decides to shut it down for a year, bypass his RFA season to become UFA next year when fully healthy, then sign for a contender/big market with cap space. its not that crazy to envision these days.

i'm almost 100% sure his RFA rights just roll over year after year. I know it works that way for players that went overseas, Toronto still has RFA rights on Nando de Colo who hasn't been in the NBA in 8 years. The Raptors spotrac page still has his QO

This would be great news because it at least allows us to get something in return via sign and trade or similar to allowing Graham to go to Pelicans. We gotta squeeze some juice out of this situation.

Or they could do what most would and accept the qualifying offer, get paid, and still become an unrestricted free agent after that year.

What Bridges did doesn't make much sense to me unless he has a legit offer elsewhere or *maybe* the slight possibility that he believes his case will somehow be resolved favorably and he could still have a chance at signing for relatively big bucks with another team (in the hopes the Hornets won't match it) later on this season. I guess that could also be a *wink wink, nudge nudge* type of deal with another team, all contingent on him somehow emerging from his whole ordeal in a better position than we all think he will (e.g., maybe he accepts some sort of lesser plea deal or he goes to trial and is somehow found not guilty).

Here's something I found on NBA.com:

There are five basic options for a restricted free agent:

• Accept his team’s prior qualifying offer, play out the season and become a free agent the next summer.

• Accept his team’s maximum qualifying offer (where applicable) and play under that long-term deal.

• Negotiate a new contract with his original team that is independent of the qualifying/max qualifying offer.

• Sign an offer sheet with another team through March 1, which his original team has an opportunity to match (see below).

• Negotiate a sign-and-trade if he hasn’t signed an offer sheet with another team.

• If there is no qualifying offer, contract or offer sheet signed for one year, the original team can submit a new qualifying offer and the player will be a restricted free agent the next summer.

It seems like that means that we would basically repeat the whole process over again next summer? I'm surprised that is the case; I just figured that Bridges would only be a restricted free agent this year and if he chose to not sign the qualifying offer and waited till next off season, he would be unrestricted, but it sounds like that may not be so?
