I only got to see highlights but from the limited amount you can deduce, we were playing checkers and they were playing chess. Defensively I expect a lot better from Orlando.
Forget the talent/experience gap between the two team for a minute. The tactical and coaching difference was gaping.

Good god, this was the first preseason game after we didn’t get a normal camp like most other teams because of the storm. And on top of that, Memphis, one of the better teams in the league had already played a game.

This season for the Magic is about learning how to play with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. I think they will tank just for a chance to have the number one pick again. And honestly, I agree with them. This is the year to do it quite frankly.
I would say this. Banchero is not a SF. Don´t overthink it even in this positionless era.

I don’t care for the score that’s not what I look for in preseason, but that was bad.
1) We are still half assed with our passing and this has been a problem for a while in my opinion, entry passes in the post are too soft and even the simple pass we screw that up. This needs to be ironed out as soon as possible.
2) Whilst I get this is game 1 of the preseason and we had less time for practicing due to the hurricane/storm that happened, Mosley needs to become dynamic if he is to be successful. Whatever we was doing wasn’t working yesterday, I’d like to see more adjustments in terms of coaching.
There’s more but these are the two things that jumped out to me. As I said it’s game 1 of our preseason so hopefully after this game they can brush it off and improve, I’m not expecting us to look like the warriors but at least look like a competent as a team.

with franz back i think he's the 3 and p5 is the 4....You can't do anything with pace when you have bamba's slow azz out there....we need to play faster and move the ball with purpose...these slow floating passes isn't going to get it done...never would've thought that RJ would be the most competent guard in the first game.....I don't want to say i'm worried about mose and how he's using P5 but what we saw out there wasn't it....I thought we would gradually get him up to speed in the pick and roll but use him more in sets he was effective with at duke then get him heavy pick and roll but mose kinda threw him into the fire...he's not quite ready for that just yet

Sounds great, if you are Warriors...Not so great if Mortiz Wagner is your best shooter.
We almost shot better from 3 than 2!
Bit of a FT disparity, 34-13 in favor of MEM. they MADE more than twice as many as we took.

Obviously we were terrible and obviously it continued trends we've seen for a long time, but nevertheless, it was still just the first game of the preseason. Some of the takes are a bit hot.

I'm not overreacting but I would like to see more creative play calling from Moseley during the year. Because our team's strength is in the front court not the back court, i think Moseley needs to run an offense similar to Denver's where the big man controls the ball or just one where the front court players make the decisions with the ball.
I don't believe that the team is going very far if Cole Anthony is going to be our leading scorer again.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Wasn't able to watch the game, but checking out the box score was a gut punch.
Looks like RJ had a nice game, and TRoss had 12 points in 14 minutes with a steal and a block, he could still be a useful player, he has to try.
The thing that sticks out the most is that the Magic had 13 FT attempts vs 34 for the Grizzlies. We ranked 29th last year in FT attempts.

It's not.
All you need to know how the Magic felt about this upcoming season was listen to how Weltman and Hammond talked about this past offseason ("we don't want to rush it" "we're not going to skip steps" blah blah blah) and better yet, pay attention to the moves they actually made.
They committed to nothing beyond this season. Bamba, Ross and Harris are all on expiring contracts. Fultz and Isaac are both guys they can easily get out from under after this season if they're so inclined.
Whether anyone wants to accept it or not, the Magic organizationally is not trying to win this season and it's been obvious for months.

Paolo needed this. When you’ve been the best at something for majority of your life, you need that moment that makes you realize you’re not as special as you thought (even in if the person is). Paolo looked like just another guy out there playing in a NBA game and it’s the best thing that could of happened to him.

A lot of posters playing it off as everyone is overreacting to a loss to a great team in a meaningless game. No one cares that we lost. This isn't about the importance of Franz and Fultz. This is about who we did get to see showing absolutely nothing, even perhaps worse basketball than last season. That is all. Suggs is clearly most of the frustration. There is no nice way to put it...the guy sucks at basketball and we used a #5 pick on him.

Yes, making statements about a players career after this 1st preseason game, with all the underlining aspects is a super hot take.
To say Suggs sucks at basketball...IDK...
Did he have an absolutely craptastic game?? yes.
Let's see what shakes out, also we should have the same zest for RJ's game?
My stat of the game:
The starting 5 had more turnovers (18) than made FGs(14)

Best lower expectations for a while folks. It's not like there's a ton of improvement that can actually happen in an offseason. NBA season is different level of talent, different speeds, different environments, etc. than any alternative these guys could have had. Individually, Franz is our only player who likely made a few notable improvements, mainly due to his play time in eurobasket and even then it's not the same.
We'll only see (or not see) progress from players over the course of the season as they acclimate via real game experience and time together as a unit.

Again, it's more about averages and where a player is headed rather than one game. Suggs was just as bad as he was last year. If he didn't suck last year, no one would be complaining about his terrible game. Just like no one is freaking out about Paolo. In regards to RJ, it's great that he didn't suck. Now let's see if he can string multiple games together like that. That's all that matters.
