2023 NBA Draft Thread

Post#1 » by amcoolio » Wed Oct 5, 2022 3:07 am

With the way we've looked so far, its almost malpractice not to try to get one of these two guys, both of which are perfect fits with LaMelo

Injuries will be the only thing to stop Wembanya

Wembanyama makes me nervous because he is French.

Scoot makes me nervious because his name is Scoot.

Either way, if we're going to tank for Melo's running mate (or make him the Robin) this is the year.

So, 9th pick it is.

There are other very good wings behind those two. And yes, it would be criminal not to fully tank knowing a bunch of franchise will do it without blinking and caring for their 'image'.

If there is one franchise that has the right to do it, it's Charlotte.

As for Victor, i hope he ends up in Houston. I dont like them, but they have good development team (assuming Olajuwon is still in the development staff). And they wont be able to develop all prospects together, so who knows, maybe eason might become available (or another). Even though he would have made more sense with Bridges in the team (and anyway we are talking about bringing another alpha, Eason would be a nice complementary piece at this point).

Anyway we are far from the draft, a lot can happen still. But Hornets better not gamble on picking in the late lottery when they can control the process with their own pick and fill the current roster nicely.

Btw there is another prospect in that Met team that no one talk about and that might be an interesting bet in the future (Coulibaly) Still very young (18) and raw, but he's typically a two way wing with some creating skills if he keeps developing as nicely as he has done already. unlike many of our prospects, he has a pretty nice dribble (among other 'usual' things you expect from some nba material like athleticism etc). He will probably be in 2024th's draft

Scoot legit looks like Kobe Bryant with his midrange and ISO game. He looks like a stronger Kyrie Irving. His defense is good too

But Wembanyama, if healthy, might be the best prospect since Oden/Durant. Instantly changes your franchise's trajectory if you win the lottery.

Hornets have to know they aren't getting a top 10 seed in the East as currently constructed. Trade the vets, play Bouk, Kai and Thor into the ground, and go for it. Even if its only a 25% chance at getting one of these two players, its our only avenue to help LaMelo

Or combine them to move back to 14th. Seems like that's what we kinda did this past draft.

Whenever you have the chance to trade 13th pick this year for 24th pick next year, you gotta do that every time. - Mitch, probably

The early impression I'm getting from draft people is that this draft is also deep at the top after Wemby/Scoot. If they tanked and didn't get the first pick it might not be that big of a deal (since they already have LaMelo) and they could also luck into having the opportunity to draft a really good player if they just make it into the top 8 or so.

What protection is on our pick this year? Lottery?

It would be our luck to lose our pick and only have Denvers pick in the 20's.

top16 protected

As for Scoot, not sure about being a sure thing. The guy plays above his size but he's still 6.2. I doubt another prospect is not gonna change the expected scenario for #1 and #2.

There is, imo, just as good a chance the Knicks never get a 1st from that trade as there is that we make the playoffs over the next two seasons.

Protected 1-16 this year, 1-14 next year and then changes to 2nd rounders in 2026 and 2027.

so even if we semi-tank, what teams are still clearly worse than us? orlando, houston, san ant, utah, okc. like, at best we are 6th worse?

Indy is very clearly tanking too.

We will be relying on lottery luck

**** 7'-4" durant, meets rookie year Ralph Sampson with handles and 3pt range.

I hope he goes to the thunder so we can see chet and Victor on same team, just for the insanity.

These are the guys that I like most going into the season. These are players I have been interested in for a while. I think any of these 5 could really help us.

Hunter Sallis - Athletic freak. I think will play his way into the lottery this year.

Mojave King - He is a guy with an NBA game. Great all around fundamentals. Type of guy that would play well every game.

Matthew Murrell - has that low key star power to him. One of my FAVORITES.

Brandon Huntley Hatfield - is a player I think that could fill the PF spot especially in a half court set

Azuolas Tubelis - I think he is a good Center that can get his shot.

-------------------------------------------------------
Others to consider

COMBO GUARD -
Jalen Warley,

POINT GUARD -
Scoot Henderson, Caleb Murphy, Jazian Gortman

SHOOTING GUARD -
Terquavion Smith, Matthew Murrell, Manny Obaseki, Terrence Shannon JR., Kobe Bufkin,

SMALL FORWARD -
Andre Jackson, Colby Jones, Teafale Lenard,

POWER FORWARD -
Mouhamed Gueye, Baba Miller,

CENTER -
Azuolas Tubelis, Xavier Foster,
UPDATED 7-5-2025

These are who I want with our picks in order

Fears
Raynaud
Kam Jones
Taelon Peter - or Will Richard
Chase Hunter - summer league invite

I think one of Detroit or Orlando will go for it with their roster and end up above us. I think we’ll have a top 8 pick, could pair it with our 2nd Rd pick to trade up a couple spots.

Knowing Pritchard drafted Oden (even though Victor is not a center, i keep repeating it, at best a 4/5 otherwise he wont last and impact like when he's at the 4), i am pretty sure Indy will fully embrace the tank especially when we consider their frontcourt.
Victor had some training games against Turner this summer, safe to say indy's scouts were in the house to watch.

And anyway, their FO knows they need to add a legit alpha from the top of the draft to Haliburton & cie. Something many fans here, and unfortunately Hornets's FO as well, thought they did not need once Ball had finished his rookie season

At the very least, this roster should have had a Ball/Mobley duo to work with as it was very attainable and pretty much obvious for anyone watching a bit of games in the youngsters competition, and thinking about the fit.

And its not a FO's responsability. A lot here wanted to ride the Ball/Bridges duo.
