I'd honestly be nervous about this game. It sounds like it was designed to get you to spend money, like a virtual slot machine. For the same reason I don't have gambling apps on my phone, I dont want a slot machine in my home hooked up to my bank accounts.
And I'll sound like an old fogey to the younger posters in this thread but be careful if you play this game. They are very good at getting you to spend more than you intend to. I'm not saying you'll become some loser in Reno but there is a real risk you end up burning a $100-$200 for pure crap

The last NBA 2K game I bought was 2K13. It seems every year its the same sh*t with minor improvement. I might make another jump to a later game before the paywall was implemented.

I havent played latest 2k, so I wont speak, but I think recent NBAs have really weird simulation. Some rosters that are good - suck, and some rosters that are not very good, are dominant. I understand that they now have all those player tendencies, and testing and balancing that crap out is very hard, but in the past games, you knew by looking at rosters, who will be great and who wont, with NBA 2k22, it is not exactly like that.
In my first year of NBA 2k22 myleague, Minnesotta won NBA championship, with KAT, Antman and D'Angelo, dominating. I believe they were like 6th. or 7th. seed, but they did it. That was quite a reach.
Second year was interesting. Pelicans became dominant force, so did OKC after signing Time Lord, who is good in a game, 81 or so overall with great defensive ratings. Funny thing was, Luka had dominant stats and was MVP, basically a 36 ppg triple double. But ZIon was insane in the play offs, Dallas and Pelicans meat in second round, Zion drops a 71 point game, an all time Play off record. ANd next game - 10 minutes into a game Zion gets injured, done for season. Seem like an easy route for Dallas. But guess what, they choke and lose 4 in a row to basically Valanciunas and BI. At the end, my Knicks Lose to Detroit in Eastern Conference finals, I didnt believe it, but I was kinda happy, because I felt if I win championshiop, the entire mode is not interesting anymore, I set sliders SO BAD into AI favor, I lose, I lose one game after Mitchell RObinson who was at Detroit by that point, drains a freaking 3 to send game to overtime, I think when that happens, I am good with losing... At the end, OKC vins NBA finals over Detroit.
But By talent, I just do not feel it should have happened, it seems too random to me. ANd By the way, Lakers SUCKED hard in my run.
As I said, FIFA ruined my PC. I now try to recover the files that were deleted, I reallly hope I get my NBA, Eldenring and Witcher 3 saves back, cause damn it... I kinda hate sports games, but I can't help myself, it is just my jam, i Follow all gaming news, but try out like one real game a year.
But I appreaciate how much customization those singple player modes still have in 2k, you can really make the league your own. When you compare myleague mode to FIFA's manager mode, manager mode is a complete sham. I could write an even much longer posts than these on what I think of Manager mode, but thats all I play still, it is just the best I could get, there is no alternative.
Manager as in football manager is the best sim sports game over anything 2k has so far.
Football Manager is incredible. Out of the park sports is good and hell Fire Pro Wrestling will always have a spot in my heart too. All have in common? No major promotion or backing.
I tried Football manager like 16 years ago, and I liked it, but at a time I really knew very little about actual sport. I always used to play FIFA, but I started really watching Football just recently. I am still a big noob, I know people say FM is relatively simple, I really need to get on it, but I just never do. I know I would probably love that stuff, I am a guy who is into Paradox games and stuff like that.

I don't use shot meter and they finally got the shooting to be pretty acceptable again last season only to make it way different again this year. I haven't played it that much but I couldn't get the timing right with no shot meter like I normally can, its like the release pt is different, used to watch the hands now its a bit tougher.
Maybe I'm just trash lol but nah I'm decent.

FIFA sucks. Winning 11/Pro Evolution Soccer was a much better game during it's heyday. Unfortunately the wheels fell off PES in the last few years and the franchise is dead now.

PES was awesome when I was in college but yeah much like MVP and NCAA the franchises are now dead or are just being rebooted.

FM is f'ing great. About my only complaint is how addictive and time consuming it is.
Otherwise, the process of guiding a team from the English 2nd or 3rd division to perennial European dominance is among the most satisfying experience I've ever had since I started gaming. I like to play in 20-year blocks, so it's all computer-generated players by the end. You build a real history over that span, filled with memorable players, games, seasons, individual accomplishments, etc etc. I've actually written up a few of those saves as narratives to post on reddit, and it reads like the actual history of a real team.

The best thing is, it can be whatever you want it to be depending on your focus. For example, some people go absolutely nuts over tactics. Whereas I like to just find a good one on YT, stick with it and put all of my energy/focus into scouting players. And depending on how good your PC is, you can use an absolutely massive database of players and leagues from around the world. So the depth is unparalleled. In short, I would give it the highest possible recommendation.

That is exactly how I play regular sports games, it is all about building your own alternative sport history. Honestly, in FIFA, I wish there was a realistic finances option, because I get the appeal of taking crap team and making it into powerhouse, but I kinda wish there was way more challenge to that, because in FIFA, they just keep giving you money. To me, thats kind of boring, but I know I am the guy who plays every game on nightmare difficulties, and it shows in my posts
One thing I know about Football manager, is that it keeps stats I believe, so I heard people say that their save files gets to be 85 gigs

What is the point in playing a game where you improve by dollars instead of playing? Its why tablet app games are a waste of time.

To me, thats kind of boring, but I know I am the guy who plays every game on nightmare difficulties, and it shows in my postsI wish if you picked Brugge or Ajax even, they wouldn't just increase you budget every year, but the opposite, that you would really need to rely on being a farm to survive, and I get that most gamers might not find that enjoyable, but you could still find ways of building a 4.5 to 5 star team I have no doubt, I just hate how non challenge it is to do that now.
One thing I know about Football manager, is that it keeps stats I believe, so I heard people say that their save files gets to be 85 gigs
It does keep stats -- which I keep further track off on a notepad, so I have a nice little record of each save -- individual goals/assists, awards, win streaks, cup finals, season records, etc etc -- but the big suck is the database.
I forget what the exact limits are, but you can activate second and third divisions for all the major countries and the first divisions for pretty much every nation that plays football, so the player pool is well over 100,000. I have a pretty great gaming PC and I can't even go to the upper limit. But even below that there's just an enormous amount of potential players to sift through, any one of which could be your next superstar. One of the best players I've ever had was some Thai midfielder, and I'm not sure I've gotten even a youth prospect from there since. So it can be pretty addictive, especially if you're obsessive like I am.
The finances are another area where you can tailor to your gameplay. I've had saves where I had more than $2 billion in my transfer budget after focusing on amassing as many wonderkids as I can, and others where every year was a challenge to make the numbers work because I was pouring every single cent into the first team and the payroll was getting out of control.
One of the reasons I got sick of standard sports video games, which used to be a cornerstone of my gaming hobby, is because so much of it is down to manual dexterity -- skilled button mashing. FM is entirely about your brain power and dedication, so IMO it's vastly, vastly more satisfying. Watching some kid you groomed from 16 win the Ballon d'Or is just ridiculously fun. I've read about people getting divorced over this game, and now that I've dived back in I can absolutely see why.

Could not have said it better myself, if 2k would purely do a edition sim nba it would be nuts!! though i would not expect anything close to this, as fm has been around for more then 2 decades now, though it would be quite a market worth getting into from 2k’s prespective.

There’s an amount of truth to that now, especially with vc taking over certain games, it can all be avoided as long as you don’t give in.

I've got my player to a 79 overall without spending money on VC surprisingly.
I actually feel like badge grinding isn't as difficult as previous entries and in exchange it costs more VC to upgrade your player.

The last NBA game I played was NBA Live 2001, with Kevin Garnett on the cover of the CD-ROM. Pentium 4 just came out, but it worked well with P3 or AMD K63. Reading the comments, I can't believe how much the game has changed since.

I stopped buying 2k games because I was sick of making a rookie that runs around like a drunken sailor for years because you didn't put enough magic bucks into his athleticism. And that was long before people started turning on the series.
Unfortunately enough kids put their parents money into the myteam nonsense, it doesn't really matter anymore what people think about the actual game, same with FIFA and Madden.
