Re: 2023 NBA Draft
I was very impressed with Scoot. I just think he has that "it" factor that so many of us draft pundits learned to see through via following this process over the years.
Scoot seems like a mix of Chris Paul's cleverness with Derrick Rose's athleticism. I wanted to see more playmaking from him but that's to be understood due to the setting of the game.
I think Scoot has a great chance of being the best PG prospect of the last 10 years. And he's still so young... imagine him 4 years from now, jeez.
That being said, Wenbanyama was extremely impressive as well. Moves really well, is an exquisite shooter and good passer. I think his effort varied through the game, but that could be due to his stamina, not necessarily a low/inconsistent motor. Obviously he needs to work on his body. He seemed like an evolutionary KG out there.
I believe he's worth the risk for a #1 pick, yes.
As for the rest of draft, I don't know, still haven't catch up with the other players.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft
I just want to reiterate something mentioned on the previous pages.
There is very little path Scoot can take to become a top 5 players in the league. Small guards can more easily become franchise players (as in their hit chance at top of the draft is pretty damn high) and end up in that 10-20 range of good franchise players, but not MVP level players. This would be a great outcome at #1/2 in most cases, but these are almost complementary players, not the type that leads your team across the finish line.
An additional point is that 7'4" players have not been successful in the NBA not because they are bad but because players who are truly 7'+ without shoes are exceedingly rare. I wouldn't discount Wemby for the lack of success of his giant sized predecessors.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft
So when was the last draft that was better than this one?
Not in hindsight but looking at the prospects coming out.
Is there a better first and second pick in a draft?
This draft looks like it has the best Center prospect and Point Guard prospect that I have seen since I have been following for over 10 years now. Same draft. Im not familiar with many of the other prospects but there seems like a lot of other interesting prospects as well.

Most recent for me was with the Zion and Morant top 2.
I had Zion pegged as instant star with generational potential and Morant was very promising as a suitable plan B.
Different style players but in terms of impact i was crazy high on that top 2 as well.

He kinda reminds me of Edwards initially watching him. Maybe hes more PG than Combo Guard like Edwards was but the 3 level scoring, confidence and athleticism feels like him at times.
I'm gonna have to watch him more this year to see on the Rose comparison. Does he have that mid air body type shifts Rose had attacking the rim? Thats kinda was one of Rose's most elite talents.

I think Scoot is much different from Edwards, who is bigger than him.
Scoot, in that sense, is more similar to prime John Wall, though Wall also has a bigger body and frame than Scoot.
About the Rose playstyle, yes, I'd say so. Scoot seems like a very shifty, full of improvisation-kinda player.
Cheers!

Ok so Victor has had 2 absolutely incredible games here. Why is he playing so much better here than he has in Europe?

#1: The freaks that we really have never seen before. We have never seen a physical specimen like Zion and he was so dominant as well. It was impossible not to take him #1. But he also had huge question marks about his body. Is there anyway a body can hold up to what he was doing at that size. Similar to Wemby, we really havent seen anything like him before. But just like Zion, you have to ask yourself, is that body and long skinny legs going to be able to hold up?
#2: You had the freak athletic PG in Ja. Ya great prospect and even if you liked him more over Zion, there was no way you could take him #1 over Zion, just because if both guys hit their ceilings you would look like an idiot for not taking Zion. That kind of feels like Scoot here. Even if you like Scoot more than Wemby for whatever reason, there is no way you could take him #1. Because ya if both players hit their absolute ceilings, youd look dumb on passing on Wemby.
And to be clear this is no shot at Ja's and Scoot's ceilings, its just guys like Zion and Wemby if they were to stay healthy can have truly freakish high ceilings.
Problem is that no one seems to take this in to account. I think it's because no one is thinking like the actual team at this stage. Once we know which team has the number 1 pick I think we will see their fans leaning towards Scoot.
Wemby is great for punters to say yeah he's a great prospect. Then when he invariably gets injured they can talk about how he was the GOAT prospect and the greatest what if.
The truth is that Scoot had an awesome game. Scored similarly and had 9 assists with 1 TO. Had more.rebounds than Wemby too.
you can't pass on Wemby even if u think there is an injury risk there tho, similar situation to Zion.
Look if he keeps playing like he has these past 2 games then completely agree. I think this guy as a rookie would make an average team a playoff team.

He barked a lot...and in a similar way, Scoot has that dawg in him. Love you acknowledging his mentality

NBA rules and court vs FIBA plays a role

I HATE that Scoot opted to sit out after banging knees. Major red flags for me. It might be nothing but it reminds me of Sharpe and him happily skipping last season and the other "too cool for school" guys that never seem to pan out. Unless it's an actual injury I'm now very aware of the potential for him to not live up to his potential.

Why risk your future on an exhibition game?

Green font?
You do realize that these are just exhibition games right? You also realize that Scoot actually played for Ignite last year as well. So the comparison to Sharpe literally makes zero sense. I mean to go all the way to say youre very aware of the potential for him not to live up to his potential because he sat out a G League exhibition game after he banged knees is a super weird take.

Victor stock is going to the moon. Literally no way hes not going pick 1 outside of injury just forget about. As Woj says GMs are telling him were going to see some crazy tanking. This class is going to change the NBA.

because he's playing against a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds and guys who have come back over after playing in europe and the defense is pretty much trash.
i thought it was well known that g league defense is a joke.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft
i for one can't wait for the college season to start so we can start talking about somebody other than VW. the jazz are going to suck, will possibly have the worst record in the league, but because the lottery system works, they aren't going to get VW - i want to know who is going to challenge for the other top 3 spots among those first 5 picks.

Yes, and I'll add:
- NBA game is played with more running, transition, spacing... it's a more "open" game
- FIBA game is played with more physicality, and reffed as such too
Lots of NBA players have said as such in the past few months... Jokic, Giannis, Luka, etc.
Plus, there's the level of competition too... this G-League team would get embarassed by the top FIBA clubs, obviously.

DWH, Black and Jackson would be my early guesses
