Isnt giving him all the PG minutes despite struggling manifestation of baby sitting you want to avoid ? During media day all our players and coach was saying was holding each other accountable. Are we about that or about being self entitled bunch of high lottery picks ? I am not advising about benching Suggs right now, its been only 2 pre season games and i like him as a person and i like his potential as a player, but we need to have some boundaries.
Suggs isnt the only player on our roster to develop, he is not even our highest ceiling player, he could even not be our highest ceiling combo guard in the end. Wagner and Carter want to win, they could get frustrated quickly if we start to force minutes to bad players.

If we're playing a struggling Suggs a ton of minutes at PG next year then yes. But for this year, we need to figure out if he's worth keeping now. If he can't string 3-5 good to great games in a row consistently, we'll have our answer this season. I'm tired of doing what we did to guys like Bamba. Throw them out there. If they suck, move on quickly.

The forced role that we gave Franz in December was amazing and it only happened due to injuries... and then his role got reduced again :banghead:

Stop babying these guys. They're either NBA players or they're not. Find out quick and make decisions fast.

Its not how nba development works, at least not on good development programs. Nothing wrong in slower development in more limited role. You cant treat every player the same way.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

It takes some guards a while to get acclimated to the NBA. Look at Kyle Lowry. Over the three season from Age 21 to 23 he shot between 25% and 27% from 3, and less than 10 points a game. Defense(< Suggs level) and promise kept him on the floor. He eventually turned into a 3.2 3s a game on 41% from 3 and 22 points a game one season, while making 6 all star teams, an all nba team, and an NBA championship.

Would it be nice if guys stayed in college for 4 years like Chris Paul and come into the NBA as a hall of fame player?....maybe, but that's not the way it works anymore...you got to draft these kids off such little tape and focus on athleticism and give them time and attention they need to figure it out. You don't write off these 20 year olds because they haven't figured out how to beat NBA pros that have figured it out and continued to hone their craft over years and years.

I just disagree. Did Trae Young need to be babied? How about Luka? Or Ja? Our own Franz? Or even a guy that took a little while like Brandon Ingram? No, you just have to get them out there. Hiding them is doing them no favors. Especially when we're not in a position to compete anyway.

The question is...

Did those guys you mention develop faster because they were given more or were they given more because they were further developed?

I think you could make the case it's the latter.

I would rather make the case that crappy players don’t develop into starting caliber players. I remember watching Kyle Lowry back when he was a rookie and could tell he was going to be good. Did I know he was going to be an all-star? Hell no but I saw the building blocks of a good player. We need to give Suggs a long leash and see if he has ‘it’ or is he just going to be ‘a guy’ that we don’t need to focus too much development time moving forward. Good organizations make the right picks often, great ones do the same but can evaluate quickly and pivot when needed.
