Only surprise is that Indy didn’t wait until the filing deadline, like they normally do!

Yeah. These are guys you have to take care of. I'm also surprised they didn't follow their SOP, but glad they have it done and out of the way.

Goga doesn’t have any more options available. He’s eligible for a rookie contract extension right now, but no option decisions.

okay, so it is technically an extension rather than an option. that does make a difference and so not being mentioned in this announcement doesn't signify anything. his slow reaction times have always been a problem for me but he's still young and still tall and those are things you can't teach.

So, the team is still roughly $15M below the salary floor? If correct, that leaves a lot of room to absorb salary from a team wanting to avoid luxury tax problems, in exchange for also receiving draft picks and/or a serviceable SF.

Not a bad spot to be in.

Scott Agness has clarified that Goga had his option picked up last year.

Yes. That’s why he’s under contract for this year.

Interesting fact from telecast. Pacer roster is younger than the Ants.

HA! So, in the tweet where he writes about it, he tells us he decided not to write about it? OK.

Sure. But I think he was remarking about an article, since he quote tweeted the article link on the (lack of) possibility of a Goga extension on his Forbes site.

Goga not quite in TJ Leaf category of disappointment, but not a great career so far. Its also worth considering Thybulle and Poole were both still on the board when he was drafted.

True, but they are both guards while Goga is a center. Guess the Pacers decided they needed another center more than another guard?

Oh, Goga is nowhere near the Leaf category of disappointment. Goga has at least strung together long runs of solid play and shown he can play in the nba. Leaf never really did.

Goga has been a disappointment and I'm not sold he has a future in Indy. But he's got a place in the league still. Part of his issues are on him but he's also had some bad coaching, injuries, and a real tough path to minutes.

He looked pretty solid in pre season and should see some minutes with Jacksons foul issues. Not sure we resign him though unless he makes a noticeable jump.

if you are a SiriusXM subscriber, there's a Pacer preview online with Mark Boyle doing interviews.
