Predict Opening Night Roster

Post#1 » by YosemiteSam » Sat Oct 15, 2022 1:33 am

With preseason games finished, and four rotation players out injured for the start of the season, I thought it’d be fun to predict who makes the opening night roster, and who goes to the G league, and who gets cut. The Magic can have 15 active players, and 2 two way contracts. With four players injured, that’s 11 active players on the roster on opening night, and probably the two way players as well. My predictions below:

Locks
- Banchero
- F Wagner
- Carter Jr
- Anthony
- Ross
- Okeke
- Hampton
- Bamba
- M Wagner

Injured
- Fultz
- Suggs
- G Harris
- Isaac

Active
- Bol
- Houstan
- Schofield (2 way)
- K Harris ( 2 way)

G League
- Cannady
- Scrubb
- Shittu

I think the main question will be Cannady vs Houstan, in case they want Caleb to get more court time in the G League. But I predict they keep him on the NBA roster to give him exposure and practice with the top players. Schofield, K Harris and Houstan go down to G League as injures players return.

You basically have it already.

No way they will cut Houstan for Cannady.

Houstan's contract is fully guaranteed and Cannady's is fully unguaranteed. Cannady is getting cut.

Yeah, Cannady is gone.

Sucks because he seems like a really great guy and I think if he wants to coach in the future he'd be a great coach too. Numbers wise and position wise it would be hard to keep him.

In a perfect world i would keep K. Harris and send Suggs to Lakeland!!!

I saw it too.

It was pretty obvious Devin Cannady was being cut simply based on the roster situation.

If he does not get picked up by another team, I hope he is back in Lakeland.

I mean I like Cannady as a person, but he wasnt really a skilled player. He's a good story but his spot is better used on someone else.

Sad to see him go but it was pretty much clear from the get go he was gone. I sdont understand how we have admiral back tho. There’s a lot of 3-4 on this team. Would have made sense to have kept Devin with the injuries at the guard spot and schofield kinda sucks.

Devin had a contract from last season. It could not be turned into a two-way. We had to waive him, clear waiver in order to offer him another two-way contract.

I really liked Devin and wish we could have kept him. His skill was shooting, that’s what we needed. I understand the roster situation and it truly sucks letting him go.

Houstan has played like an NBA-level talent. I am already really impressed with his offensive efficiency.

Predict Opening Night Roster

Anthony/Suggs
Ross/Hampton
F-Wagner/Okeke/Houstan
Banchero/Bol
Carter/Bamba/M-Wagner

And all 12 can be predicted to get game minutes.

Its kind of funny, but isnt Harris/Ross/Wagner/Banchero/Carter actually our best lineup ?:P
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

The best balanced lineup would be: Anthony/Ross/Franz/Paolo/WCJ but make Franz the primary initiator.

If making Franz and probably Paolo the primary initiator, wouldnt suggs make more sense than cole? Then we have cole coming of the bench as 6th man to bring in scoring?

Suggs cant shoot at all, Cole at least keeps defenses somewhat honest. Franz and Paolo need space to operate, and Cole give them more space than Suggs, in theory.

Sure, but Cole can't keep opposing offenses honest at all, where Suggs can defend multiple positions at a high level. If Cole was efficient at all then this theory might make sense. Having a FG% of 39% while being an open door on defense doesn't really help you win games.

There is enough space out there for Franz and Paolo. It's the NBA. Put Suggs in the corner or above the arc, when Paolo and Franz are doing their thing.

If Ross plays like last season, hell no, he shot 29% from 3 and he was still much better on offense than on defense where he was just hilariously bad. He was a legit contender for the worst rotation player in the league according to the impact stats, almost every lineup with him was a train wreck.
