re-watching this vid. our last game of summer league 2022, a hell of a game for Begarin:

I get why the c's are stashing Begarin for another year, but man - watching this vid and seeing how the backup wing spot is still an area of need for us, it's kind of a bummer we don't have him in camp competing for a spot.

I think next year is the year for Begarin. As long as he continues to show improvement on both ends of the floor this season in France, I can definitely see him competing for mins off the bench in 2023-2024. Some of that depends on how Hauser performs this season - if Hauser isn't that great this season, that opens the door a little bit more for Begarin to have a shot next year..

He should be on the roster next year. Instead of two rust sun the g league, he stays in Europe. I like how the Celtics do this.

This by the way was his first game back from injury. It was against a EuroLeague team (Monaco is 5-0 in the french league this season and just beat the two times defending Euroleague champs Efes earlier this week).

He also added 3 steals and he went 6/6 from the line. I commented earlier about how his free throw stroke looked much better in summer league and it seems to have carried over to this season (let's see a bigger sample size now).

I'll try to catch a replay some time this week to get a better feel for his performance.

wow. Yeah Monaco is a good team.

I would think this might be the best game of Juhann's career, this far.

Excited to watch his progress this season. Obviously, if he keeps this up he will be on our roster next season :)

I understand why he wouldn’t want just the 15th spot, and I understand why the team wouldn’t want to start control when he’s only 15th spot, but I think it’s pretty obvious Johann would be a better option that Jackson.

Man if Brad lands a solid player or two out of Begarin, Yam, Davison that will be such a huge score for this club.

Now I'm pretty much expecting a stud in the second round this year... 8-)

:15 really like the grit, determination and strength by Juhann on this play. Puts up a wild shot initially (really good D by the defender) but sticks with it and simply wills the ball into the bucket

:26 good drive and kick out here by Juhann. Definitely a theme I'm seeing from clips in this game (and many other Juhann clips) is that he relentlessly attacks, attacks, attacks. Always attacking the basket, keeping pressure on the defense.

:37 nice job attacking here by Juhann, and usually this will be a layup but the Monaco player makes a hell of a block. This is a really good team Juhann is facing here - games like this will prepare him well for the NBA

2:30 good job moving without the ball, he cuts to rim at just the right time, smooth finish for the bucket

2:47 out of control on this drive and turns it over. Hey, it's just his 1st game of the season, returning from injury. I'll give him a pass on this one

3:13 solid D by Juhann vs Mike James (one of the best guards in Europe), and then we see him go right at James, attacking the basket in transition. He overpowers the smaller defender for the bucket, using a nice combination of size + speed/explosiveness here, getting to the basket in a blur.

4:39 this is probably Begarin's best play of the game. This is some high level stuff. Gets the defensive rebound, goes coast to cost with it, weaver in and out of the defense, showing a solid handle and ability to change speeds, change directions while pushing it up the floor. Again, showing that attack, attack, attack playing style, and ends the play with a strong finish at the rim over some big defenders. Good sh*t.

6:29 really like this play from Juhann too. I had to rewind the vid a couple times to fully catch what he did on this play but he is pressuring the heck out of Mike James in the backcourt. All over him like a ball hawk, jumps up with arms up to really make it hard for James to see the floor, which forces James into a bad pass, leading to the turnover and transition bucket for Paris.

6:55 again, we see Begarin's speed in the open floor here and his attacking mentality. Nice shiftiness on the drive here too. At the last second he sees how his defender is leaning one way, so he goes the other way with the ball, giving himself a cleaner look at the basket. Good body control on the drive and finish too. And you also like to see the fire/passion he shows, all ajcked up pumping his fist after making the clutch basket.

Not shown in this vid, but Begarin was 2/4 from 3, which is also encouraging.

I have a sneaky feeling that the coaching change for Paris Basketball could end up being HUGE for Juhann's development. Not only does Will Weaver have a solid resume (including NBA coaching experience) but I was watching one of the scrimmages at the draft combine this past spring - Weaver was coaching one of the teams and they interviewed him during the broadcast. Seemed like a very sharp guy, knows the game and is confident too. Personality wise and hearing the way he talks about the game, he kind of reminds me of Ben Sullivan.

Not to mention the quote that Comedian posted where Weaver calls Begarin "an NBA player" which obviously shows that Weaver believes in his ability and wants to help Begarin get to the NBA.

This is my takeaway as well. Juhann loves to run and push the pace. He seems to have a decent handle, and can finish well. As you say, this puts pressure on the defense. He was doing much the same in summer league. Excited to watch his progress this year, and looking forward to seeing him on the team.

Grab the rebound, run down the floor, bump the defender out of the way, lay the ball in. Basketball is easy
