Let’s just say that being “deserving” and being “more deserving than Bagley” are two different things.
Bagley sucks.

he's also terrible on defense.
You're either not watching the games, trolling, or just want to disagree with me so you decided to post that. Key is a good defender, one of our best defenders in fact.
If you mean fouling by defending then sure; he's great.
Maybe he was okay last year? But in the 4 games I've seen in the preseason not so much. Then again the whole team has been terrible in that respect.
Also: why would I care or want to disagree with you personally? I just disagree with the sentiment that you want to give a scrub-level guy a multi-year deal. That's it.

Bagley sucks.
I hope "plays better" carries a lot more clout with Weaver/Casey than "deserves."
Bey and Livers are a perfect example. Bey would likely be considered as "deserving" to start over Livers if you think that means something. But if he can't hit shots and continues drive the ball into the lane (and fail) with most of his touches while Livers DOES get himself open for kick outs and hit shots, then Bey doesn't "deserve" to continue to start. I personally put no emphasis on "deserve." The players who establish themselves as the best combination to pair with Cade and Ivey--because those two ARE going to start--should start.
Plus starting Game 1 of the regular season in no way means the player will be a starter for the entire season, so hand-wringing over who starts Game 1 seems pointless to me. Outside of Cade and Ivey I personally don't give a hoot who starts Game 1 even though I have a preference for Stew and Duren at 4 and 5 respectively. I believe that will be the best long term combination thus I want to see them play together at the earliest opportunity. And of course I have no problem throwing out the caveat that that's purely speculation on my part; it just seems to make the most sense to me.
