From 3-4 wks to 8-12 wks to ... post-ASB? What's 2nd half of the season mean?

Headline was a bit scary compared to what he actually said. He said that it could be December or January and that’s right on with where we were with the 8-12 weeks deal.

That wording is super misleading lol. Celtics fans freaking out without watching.
He said the hope is Rob is back in December or January, that it may be later due to the team being cautious. He also said if it was the playoffs, Rob would be able to play
A nonsense update.

Love Rob but his injury history is extensive. And even when he does play now he's playing through pain. And as a player who needs his athleticism to be the best version of himself, I don't know how these knicks and bruises and injuries don't become more frequent in the next few years. Put it this way: if I were Brad, I would no longer count on him until further notice. Proceed as if a healthy Rob is a luxury item. Because putting Rob in bubble wrap for 30 games every year is not a formula for contention. I hope one of these lump of coal bigs magically turns into a diamond because this would be a bigger story right now if Udoka hadn't set a blowtorch to everything.
Tbh if he comes back healthy I think we should let him build his value up and think long and hard about maybe dealing him next summer while we can still get maximum value.
fine with me.
It's just gonna a fine line to walk.
On one hand, you keep him because you know that you're not gonna get much value back in return for an injury prone player. So mine as well keep him - he's on a reasonable contract and even though he misses a lot of games, he's so damn good in the games he does play..
On the other hand, just trade him because it's too much of a pain in the a%% dealing with the constant injuries, not knowing if he's gonna be able to play or not, get someone else in his place - even if it's someone who's not quite as good, it'll be someone who's more reliable.
It's a tricky situation. I trust Brad to do what's best. He knows what he's doing and he also has more inside knowledge than us about Rob's health and potential to be healthy in the future..
I like the logic of getting a different less injury prone guy but you can't just assume he'll be more reliable. We have gotten some healthy young guys who suffer a major injury or death.

8 wks would've been late November -- good
12 wks would've put it maybe around XMas -- not that good
"Maybe later" -- missing half a season while we're trying to conserve Horford is worth freaking out over imo. Our smallball better be potent and we get something out of Vonleh/Griffin.
But whatchagonna do? It is what it is. As long as he gets back to near-100% heading into the postseason.

From what I read, PRP after meniscus surgery is normal? I'm not a doctor so I don't know this stuff though

The only thing to take from that Shams video (IMO) is that Rob would be able to play today if it were the playoffs, it paints that they are clearly just trying to preserve him for the last few months+playoffs.
If we could put up a +11 net rating with Tatum at the 4 and Kanter at the 5, I think they’ll make it work for a couple of months until Rob is back.

This tweet is an overreaction as well. I just got PRP done last Friday for tendinitis. The procedure exists to help promote healing and growth. It can only help expedite things.
It’s not to “limit pain”. If anything it increases your pain in the short term to benefit in the long term.
While it can help arthritis, it is far from the only application of the shot. Kobe famously got this shot in Germany before it was widespread in the US. I’m willing to wager a lot of people are getting this shot nowadays under the radar.

A PRP injection is a good thing. It accelerates healing.

I would hope rob is back for Xmas. We can get through 25 games no problem without him. I want him healthy for the second half of the season. We are expected to make a deep run. Rob for 50 games of regular season + 20 in playoffs is still a lot of mileage.

After the optimism about Rob post-procedure entering the playoffs then seeing him struggle on the floor (I admire him for giving it all he got but his impact was just never the same), I have zero confidence now with medical updates coming from the Cs. Better to lower expectation when it comes to his return and how he performs. Next man up when it comes to our bigs. Al can't do it all. Don't want to see him playing 34-36 mpg either pre-ASB.
Anticipating a high-octane offense 1st half of the season then defense catches up once we get Rob back. So reverse of 2022 season.

No worries, starting center Danilo Gallinari will be back for playoffs. Ultra-high powered offense incoming!!

I agree. That shams bit was click bait and really nothing new but I have zero expectations that he’ll be back by New Years. Hopefully I’m wrong, I think it’s just as likely we get a setback article. He’s an absolute game changer for the defense and as long as he’s there for the postseason I’ll feel pretty good but it’s hard to be optimistic about his health.
Even if he could play today if it was the post season - at what level? Doesn’t encourage me that much. Hopefully he comes back around February and we have a great post season run with him.
