It's insane how often that stuff happens. I'm not really a fan of either MJ or LeBron because of their arrogance and hyperfocus on their legacy so I don't really care who is seen as better but it's easy to be grouped into the "MJ stan camp" for valuing MJ's career over LeBron's or in your case vice versa. Worst case of this has to be with Duncan though when I got called a Duncan stan in a Duncan vs Kobe thread and a Duncan hater in a thread about Duncan's GOAT case that were going on around the same time.

This morning I replied to a guy on the general board who was saying that any LeBron fan should have LeBron over MJ because otherwise you're a poser. Any player you like has to be the best and anyone you think is the best should be your favorite, can't really get any further from even attempting any kind of objective analysis that way.

Jordan doesn't focus on his legacy.

Not as much as LeBron as that isn't humanly possible but you can't act like MJ never cared about how he was perceived compared to others.

MJ wanted to win, and he used everything as motivation to help him with that, but as far as his legacy, I don't think he cares about what other people think. He never called himself the GOAT. I respect the fact that he stepped out of the limelight completely after he retired. There is still all this talk about him but he never gets into any of that.

You are either the world’s only Jordan fan to have missed The Last Dance, or you are completely full of it.

You've probably seen the "and I took it personally" jokes, right? The Last Dance was mostly MJ giving his side of the story of his own career. Anytime the media even suggested another player might just be better than Jordan, he'd give 200% to make sure he not only proved them wrong but proved them so wrong that it would seem ridiculous they even suggested someone else might be better than him.

It wasn't really a thing before his first title as he didn't really act like that with the guys who were already at the top when MJ was just coming into the league. It's probably because he felt like he had to dethrone the previous best players to be considered the best and the media then turned around and championed anyone with momentum behind them as "better than MJ" despite them not having to go through the same proving grounds as MJ himself.

The media said Drexler might be better than MJ because he had a better jumpshot and then MJ proceeded to annihilate Drexler and the Blazers by shooting much more 3s than he usually did. Barkley and Malone's MVPs were pure disrespect to MJ and he did everything to prove he deserved those awards (even though they were regular season awards and he would for some reason always get his revenge in the finals).

The Last Dance itself was only ok'ed by Jordan in 2016 after LeBron had won his 3rd ring against the team that broke the regular season win record and proclaimed himself the GOAT.

MJ seemed very content with being seen on equal footing with some all-time greats that came before him but couldn't handle his peers or the next generation surpassing him.

IF YOU TURN THIS INTO ANOTHER JORDAN v. LEBRON THREAD YOU WILL BE WARNED FOR DERAILING AND THE THREAD CLOSED

To make this clear, this is a thread about underrated players. DO NOT discuss either Micheal Jordan or LeBron James in this thread.
