Did Richards even get significant Swarm time last year? If he's developed like he has just working hard in the summer, etc that's kinda impressive

Bumping myself because I was extremely encouraged by our play this game. Really good ball movement, aggressive in transition, intentional offense. I know SAS is very not great and it's just one game, but I really am surprised at how solid our offense looked. Night and day from preseason and we got our asses beat by IND in preseason so it's not a given that we look competent against bad teams.

what i learned
- we got a long ways to go to be worse than the spurs this year. wow, they are bad
- big nick energy! cliff has a way with bigs. he looked like prime deandre jordan tonight.
- dsj is solid 3rd pg, should be ahead of bouk in rotation this yr
- sucks for cody
- shoulda got pj an extension
- kelly is great againt bad defensive teams. love when he looks to drive
- gh looks in mid-season form
- i love the new take foul rules. really favors a team like ours who can run
- hard to really know if we were that good, or spurs just that bad
- both duren and kessler had double-doubles in wins, mark is invisible

I think Duren is like two years younger than Williams...

Eason had 8/7 in 15 minutes.

Williams is going to be the only rookie in his range to not get any playing time. I don't put that on Williams, he was ACC defensive player of the year. He can surly defend and rebound at the least. But Cliff isn't going to play him.

With how terrible the Spurs are, I'm pretty sure Williams could've gotten 10/10 this game if he was in Nicks place.

I'm still happy with the Williams pick.

However, I am very nervous that Clifford is going to give him the Bismack treatment. He has never successfully developed any bigs to their potential. Here or in Orlando.

Nice win but this team ought to be embarrassed for playing Bouknight

Same concern for me. Williams may not be THE answer at 5 but we really won’t know for a few years. He should be the replacement for Plum, either ahead of or behind Nick.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

What I like about the win is that we SCORED A LOT of points. I would rather that than us win 95 - 89. The reason is because if you have a good offense that is hard to come by.

What I don't like about the win is that it involved HAYWARD who is rarely ever available. So knowing that us winning and losing MIGHT depend on his presence sucks.

Duren is also built like some damn genetic freak. He was always going to contribute physically from day one. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a professional athlete NBA or NFL have a body like that at 18. Wild

Would you guys rather have Jalen Duren or Kai Jones? Mitch decided Kai Jones. And also Mark Williams.

Duren in a heartbeat over Kai.
Gun to head today, I'd take him over Mark as well. Mark just plays so much smaller than he should.

Ya, I've barely seen either play, so I'm not going to make any prediction, but my initial gut reaction is that Duren seems better than Williams.

I'm not sure if those are the two we should be comparing, though, because the choice at 15 was between Williams and Eason technically, but it also looks like Eason is a better prospect than Williams.

Its actually a bit more complex than youd think to game out what they should have done in the last draft. Knowing that Cleveland was going to pass on Eason, the best outcome looks like it would have been taking Duren at 13 and getting Eason at 15, but I think at the time you would have had to assume Cleveland was going to take Eason at 14 if you pass on him, so there was a strong incentive imo to go the safe strategic route and take Eason at 13 and then Duren/Williams at 15. In hindsight, I think its likely that if they took Eason at 13 that Cleveland would have traded 14 to Detroit, so in that scenario the outcome would probably be Eason + Williams, which still looks like a damn good haul to me. The question would really come down to who is the better prospect between Duren and Eason and how big the difference is. If Duren is a significantly better prospect than Eason, then maybe you still have to take Duren at 13 (in which case you get really lucky and end up with Duren and Eason!).

They were going to come out big winners no matter what they did as long as they kept both picks and used one of them on Eason. Its pretty unfortunate, to say the least, that its starting to look like the Duren and Eason were the best options between them and Williams and Mitch decided to pass on both and take possibly the worst prospect of the three. The real issue with the draft is trading 13 and not taking Eason with either pick, moreso than who is better between Duren/Williams imo though.

Its wild how precisely the front office had to thread the needle to screw up the last two drafts so badly.

We had a chance to get 2/3 but traded out of it and if we end up with the worst one of the three this is a bigger draft failure than Cho ever had.

Just how insanely ripped and strong he is didn't really fully stand out when I watched his college highlights. The first time I saw a closeup of him during the draft process it was kind of shocking.

i would have been fine taking duren at 13, then still choosing between eason, agbaji or griffen at 15. you could even make case of taking both duren and williams and just let them battle it out over next few years

the absolute worst outcome imo, was to trade 13, then take williams. we'll see in a few years, i guess.
