GT #2: Bulls @ Wizards 7 PM (NBCSW/980 AM) [10/21/22]

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:38 pm

YOUR Washington Wizards are 1-0!

They defeated the Myles Turner-less Pacers at the season opener. They nearly let the game go into overtime by being outscored 24-6 over the final 8 minutes. Pretty crazy stuff.

On Friday, the home opener is here and the "classic" Wizards jersey that was used from 1997-2011 along with the court colors will be utilized. I'm not a fan as it reminds me of Chris Webber being dealt, Michael Jordan's tenure, the Arenas years which were fun to a point, and then the gun-gate blowup which lead to the #1 pick of John Wall.

The Bulls are coming off a great win in Miami. They will not have Zach Lavine for this game. Lonzo Ball is also out indefinitely as he recovers from knee surgery.

But Wizards killer Demar DeRozan is in the house and we know he will live at the FT line and cause havoc.

Let's see how the home team responds to success..

You should probably move Barton to backup SG, Rui to backup SF, and Gill to backup PF. As of now, we have no reason to believe that Davis is in the rotation.

Good call! Gill actually started the 2nd half last game. Which.. was messy but clearly has the trust of Wes.

By the way I heard it's the 25th anniversary of the change to the Wizards name/uniforms. Also saw a photo of Beal in a classic Wizards jersey yesterday. I'm assuming we're bringing back those uniforms for a few games this year. Also they had the old Wizards logos on the court for the open practice.

I don't see any reason not to throw Davis to the wolves with bench minutes.

Wright
Davis
Barton
Rui
Gafford

He's probably the 4th or 5th option for that unit. If he's bad then he's bad, but there's no pressure in his role. We need to play him at this point or send him to the g-league imo.

We've had this discussion on multiple occasions in the past. The bottom line is that I don't see any compelling evidence that rookies need a lot of in-game experience to improve. Plenty of teams develop their young players in practice until they become serviceable enough to deserve minutes. We did it with Otto Porter, for example. (He played 319 minutes his rookie year.) The Spurs do it all the time. Derrick White played 139 minutes in his rookie season. Dejounte Murray played 322 minutes his rookie year.

The Wizards definitely aren't going to force feed minutes to a guy who is clearly worse than the other 10 guys in the rotation this early in the season when the Wizards still believe they can be a playoff team. That's not going to change unless Davis proves himself in practice, or if there are injuries, or if the team falls 4 or 5 games behind the 10th seed.

So long as they don't bring back the gold silk pajama versions.

Though I liked the 1970's looking racing stripe ones:

Not much to argue with here. Just impatient.

I think going to win this one, nice performance in home opener against a depleted squad. After the game Ted will give both Tommy and Wes 10 year contract extensions.

I kind of like that Wizards fit. Might cop one.

The compelling reason is that he's not good. And he should be in the G-league. I suspect once we get fully healthy, that is precisely where he will go.

Nothing classic about those blue & white jerseys. I barely noticed they were gone lol.

When Deni started out guarding Haliburton it touched on that I've thought Deni could be our Luka (not scoring wise) running the offense at PG . That was emphasized by Morris playing less than half the game.Morris is not a long term fix at PG and Deni could be in a positionless league. Also Franz Wagner is doing similar things in Orlando.

We could actually have Deni at the point ,Beal at SG,Rui at SF ,Kuz at PF and interchanging back and forth with RUI and KP at Center. This could be the team identity the Wiz can pursue.

2nd round pick in 2021.

Must be nice to hit on draft picks.

Beal gets an ugly 20, DeRozan gets 40, Wizards win crudely, 106-102, and Bullying and posturing lead to a flagrant 1, a flagrant 2, four other techs, and three ejections. Chicago headline: Bulls get bum steer from WWEzards. DC headline: Wizards buck strap Bulls, ride to second win.
