Re: PG: They scammed us out of a win
Couple RJ thoughts on the game vs Memphis. RJ got hung out to dry guarding Morant. He was shed immediately on the screen with very little help from the Hartenstein. They iced the pick and roll one time all game. At the same time, RJ didn't really have a choice but to allow the 1v1 against Hart. If he hard hedges, Morant drives weakside and the defense collapses allowing for open 3 pointers. Very deadly against Memphis' shooters. It was a frustrating job and RJ was exhausted to close the game.
I think we all know what RJ worked on during the off season. He had complete confidence in his shot, and tried to shoot himself out of a slump. That's confidence in the work he put into it. The bad shooting IMO is an aberration, we shall see how he plays over the course of an 82 game season.
The awareness is worrying. He knew that he was having a bad shooting game, but forced the issue when it mattered most. I would like to see the team go to the hot hand in these cases. Cam brought them back from the brink, let the kid try to push them over hump!
Memphis is a terrific team that plays at a high level. I personally did not expect a win, even with their injuries. But it's a weak moral victory, with the playoff chase for the 7 and 8th seed expected to be tight this year, the Knicks can't afford to drop winnable games.

That's a nice recap.
Yeah Rose is the most unsettling thing for me especially after we were hearing about how great he felt and that he hasn't felt this good in a long time. Now it could be that they are trying to not take any chances and ease him back but then again we're talking Thibs here. If there's anyone that he's not going to put on the back burner it's Derrick Rose. So unless he's being forced by the FO to not overload Rose right away it's hard to not have a sneaky feeling that something is not right with Rose and that he's not in as great a situation as we may be thinking he is.
As far as Reddish goes? He was basically Alonzo Trier-ing but with much better defense. Am I making sense?
I think Rose is on a minutes cap - but as part of an overall strategy and not because he's hurt. Just a guess.
So when Brunson got an early foul, Thibs subbed in IQ at PG for a few minutes before bringing in Rose, to keep Rose at his slotted substitution times.
You better be right...or else.
Many thanks Moo, and I’m def praying you’re right buzz. There’s definite dissonance from how they sold him and how they’ve treated him so far. Hopefully it’s more to get his legs under him, but on the bright side…I’m really high rokas being a legit contributor when he arrives.

I personally think there is benefit to Rose's role being diminished (for whatever reason). We need to get clarity on IQ's role and ceiling and it may be a good thing to contextually force him into trial by fire as the primary playmaker for the second unit.

My wife and I were just talking about this winter hike we did back east where we got caught in a blizzard at the summit and it was so. ****. Cold. Or like weeks out of the year where the wind just whips down the avenues. Granted there are some wicked mountain storms out here to be avoided at all costs... but we've forgotten what real cold is. It's a good thing.
I was just reading the other day how mount Washington has some of the most extreme weather. I was really shocked that a 6k foot peak in NH had such famously tough weather.
Do you have any adventures planned?
What a difference a daaayyyyyy makes! Breathe the air, Guano!!!
Yeah, we were in the White Mtns in New Hampshire when that happened on a much smaller peak. White out conditions started right as we hit the summit and it was a bit of an adventure finding the trail back because the last few hundred feet or so were bare ground. But we did, and then the wind and snow calmed down and it was lovely again. You can hit bad news in a hurry in winter up there for sure.Clyde_Style wrote:Did you see Infinite Storm?

I have not. But I imagine it was like what we did only substantially moreso
New Taylor Swift and rain and getting to watch Cam and Founri3r ball out - this day is going to be great.

Why do people say things like this? It's almost like a canned take based on nothing.
RJ has played more minutes by far than anyone in his draft class, including Ja. If anything ... the opposite is true we have more visual evidence that RJ can't shoot, can't finish, and can't make free throws than others like Zion who haven't played.
The bad shooting is overwhelmingly the norm, he's a bad shooter on par with some of the most awful in the league Westbrick level offense cratering efficiency.

So shooting 17% is a normal game for him?

You have to turn that hard hedge from the help defender into a hard trap/double team forcing Morant (hopefully) to pick up his dribble. The other part to this is when he dribbles through or around it and drives to the basket, no one put a body on him. Not a dirty foul, but a hard foul. Wear him down. We have 3 useful centers. That's 18 personal fouls in total. Use them.

Bad shooting for RJ is overwhelmingly the norm across more minutes than any other player in his draft class. So to call a really bad shooting game the aberration is nonsense. He's one of the 20 worst shooters in the league who qualifies. The norm is a bad shooting game. The exception is an efficient game. And we have more minutes from him to prove the point.

He's inefficient but, 17% is nothing near the norm. Calm down bro. You're being irrational.

I didn't say 17% is the norm. I said bad shooting is the norm and we have 3 years and the most minutes as evidence. Hardly irrational, and I'm totally calm. In fact I'm so completely sedated about this team because I have no hope, nothing really gets me upset any more.

Saying "no" would have been fine as well.
It was pretty obvious what FF was getting at and it wasn't about 40%.

It was set on Mt. Washington. Really worth seeing. It is as pure a story of a survival as you'll get. The pacing works well enough that you feel like you're experiencing the incoming weather in real time and can feel the danger grow rapidly as conditions worsen. I grew up on New England's woods and ski slopes so it was very familiar territory and I've hiked Mt. Washington myself.
In the Winter skiiers would hike up the side of it called Tuckerman's Ravine which is a very steep bowl on the side of the mountain. Members of my family did it back in the day and they said the biggest challenge was the take-off because the drop off the top is so steep that you have to take air before you hit the gradient you can ski on. It is kind of like jumping out of a plane to go skiing.
It's true. Don't fck with Mt. Washington. The winds and temperature shifts get really extreme there.

I hiked Tuckerman's trail a few times in the summer as a teen. The ranger at the bottom told us it was a 4 hour hike up which pissed my brothers and I off so we did it in 2

Yeah, young guys motoring on trails, I remember. I got my comeuppance once in Maine when I was hauling ass way too fast down a mountain trail and I stepped on a tree root that extended out into the trail and it sent me flying. I was lucky I didn't go off the trail edge or I would have meatballed a few hundred feet or more down the side.

Breaking the treeline crossing a meadow and hitting that ridgeline to grab a peak. And then setting your sights on the next peak. Its an amazing feeling.

The ranger at the bottom told us it was a 4 hour hike up which pissed my brothers and I off so we did it in 2We then sauntered around on the summit, hitting a few other peaks up there before running back down. To be young.
I remember looking at the ski slide. Badass.
Breaking the treeline crossing a meadow and hitting that ridgeline to grab a peak. And then setting your sights on the next peak. Its an amazing feeling.
Never been hiking, but I've been skiing a few times, up in New Hampshire, upstate New York
They're not super tall mountains, and I don't do the difficult slopes cause I'm not good lol, but there's something about being up there and just looking out at the distance.
