Which begs the question, and I mean absolutely no disrespect to Villa fans here, why on earth would he leave a stable job in Villarreal to go to Villa in the present day? I think they're miles off being a team that could make Europe. He will need some pretty hefty backing.

I’m so so happy with this appointment, he’s the best coach we could’ve hoped for that didn’t say no already.

But to answer your question I’m sure money is a motivator in his decision, apparently he enjoys a good challenge of helping teams become a top team? I’m not sure but I’ve seen a few people say that he will be backed quite a bit but he also likes a lot of our squad and thinks it was under-utilised(I agree).

My suspicion was right about Villas board too. I think they held back some funds for Gerrard because they didn’t trust him. Now I think Emery will have the keys to the safe. I’m not going to question our board, they shot for the moon and landed with this appointment.

I’m interested in seeing what happens with Coutinho from here on out, Gerrard was a factor in why he came to Villa and he’s no longer here. We have a good coach in Emery, I wonder if Coutinho now works harder to get into the team or if he just stops caring so much. Either way I don’t mind because I think at this stage Buendia is a better player than Coutinho so he deserves more of the chance.

We are doing pretty good in terms of FFP surprisingly, that will change a bit obviously cause of the year of Gerrard and who he bought. Our owners seem to keep getting richer as well from their other ventures, but they have stated they want to move into a model where we don’t have to buy a lot of players just quality ones.

I think we’ll be more self sustained going forward, they were smart to heavily invest in our academy. It helps with FFP a lot, the Grealish sale for example has allowed us to have a lot of wiggle room for the next couple seasons.

I can see a few being sold on possibly (McGinn I think will be sold if he doesn’t improve under Emery)

How much more TV money does a PL club get versus if they're relegated to the Championship?

Tens of millions of Pounds right?

Obviously they have to spend more on players to be competitive in the PL but they may have to pay for a top manager to get the best out of those players.

Oh definitely and as I said I’m not expecting mass transfers anymore, I’ll imagine our owners have said the same thing. Coutinho, Digne and Kamara’s salaries have put us I think around 7th/8th in the league in terms of most salaries paid out, so I’m totally fine with not spending that much on transfers. I haven’t checked Villas books yet for this year and to be honest I’m not entirely sure an accurate projection is out yet.

There’s more to the squad than they have shown recently and it wasn’t being utilised properly. The only area I think we’ll spend quite a bit on, is our strikers/wingers. Since we’ve only got one recognised winger in our team now since Gerrard wanted to sell/loan the rest of them smh.

Perfect example of the difference between a team that are organised, confident and have a good coach vs a team that has had their confidence generally shot, unorganised and had a **** coach.

Unai emery’s first day on Tuesday can’t come fast enough, he has a huge job on his hands.

As much as I was saying this squad has a bit more to them, they are still mentally weak. Still we go a goal down and I know we’ve lost pretty much.

Fair play to Newcastle though, they look a good side and the confidence in them has grown so much.

Funny enough this mirrors a situation at Villa a few years back. We lost our manager and our caretaker won our next game seemingly that our confidence was back, then we played Newcastle and got battered 6-0 lol

Watching Liverpool vs. Leeds. It's hard to describe Liverpool at the moment.

There are moments where they look poised and devastating on the break, but their midfield and defence is appalling. Leeds, who aren't exactly known as a midfield force, have been passing through Liverpool with relative ease. It's just so unlike a Klopp team.

Jamie Carragher just described Fabinho as being like a ghost out there, I think that's a fair assessment.
