Very early, but this seems sustainable.

This dude is ready. Year 6 in the league and coming off a finals loss. Made all nba first team. He’s proven all you can prove without winning that chip. Top 3 mvp finish, first team all nba, second team all defense and finals mvp is all on the table.

First (of many) Player of the Week awards should go to JT. Or we riot. Only competition is Giannis but they only played two games.

Re: Jayson Tatum Thread: Part Deuce
This is going to sound insane given how amazingly he's played so far, but I've got a bone to pick with Tatum.
He's gotta stop arguing with the refs and get his ass back on defense after he doesn't get calls. Everyone noticed it with him the last couple seasons, it's something I think basically every star player does, but nonetheless it's not smart basketball. I also think it starts to feed into some of the other guys. Grant specifically loves to chirp despite it occasionally giving teams numbers in transition going the other way. Not trying to blame Tatum for that but I just see it as something that they ALL need to get out of the habit of doing and our stars need to lead from the front.
You saw it in the Orlando game where Paolo slid up under him and he didn't get the landing zone call. It wasn't until half way through the shot clock that he even appeared on screen on the defensive end and by then Ross was launching an uncontested 3 that went in.
This is nitpicking of the highest order but still something that irks me.
And to follow on from that, Mazzulla has to a) make sure he's in their ears about it when it happens but also b) be the one who gets on the refs when those missed calls happen. It's like when a baseball manager comes out to get in-between the ump and one of his guys to prevent him from getting tossed. Joe's gotta pick up a couple techs throughout the season on behalf of his guys so that they don't have to feel like they need to argue every non-call/bad call because I do think that sometimes you get some make-up calls/whistles when you're the squeaky wheel.
Ime did a decent job of it last year, I remember a couple times saying he needed to get T'd up to make a point and lo and behold a possession or two later he got one. Love what we've seen from Joe so far, hope he's gonna have that same feel for the game and be able to know when to tell his guys to shut up and when he's gotta get on his soapbox for them.

Yes and I also recall Tatum getting mad at the call and carving up the Magic for like 12 points on perfect shooting over the next 4 minutes. I'll take that trade off any day.
If Tatum doesn't show emotions on the court, he's soft and doesn't care. If he gets mad the officials, he needs to shut up and play defense (you know the end of the floor where he puts in more effort than any #1 option besides Giannis but whatever). I swear he can't win with some of you guys.
By the way for the "he needs to get better at finishing" crew, Tatum is shooting 29/39 from 2 (74.4%) and 16/20 (80%) at the rim.

The whole point is that there is no need to make that "trade off". There is nothing precluding Tatum getting so mad at the call that he carves up the Magic AND getting back on defense.
I freely admitted that this is nitpicking, I'm not trying to attack his character or anything like that. I know all superstar players and plenty of non-stars do it, but that doesn't validate it as something good or smart or laudable. It's still a bad basketball play. He'd be better if he cut it out, but regardless he's still an absolute stud.

I noticed him not get back there, but going off memory, I think that’s the only time it’s happened to far this season. I’m guessing he’s raised his hands complaining less than 5 times so far, which was probably his average per half in the playoffs lol.

Nah, that'll come down quite a bit, as will JA's, Luka's etc numbers.

Tatum isn't going to keep shooting at a 66%-50% from the basket to the FT line, no player ever has. He's not going to shoot 55% FG for the year, not even Lebron really did that.
I do think he's in line for an ascending year though.
His shooting at the rim and his 3 point percentages line up with his career norm. And he might've improved his in between game.
People though are so infatuated by scoring that they neglect what other things players bring to the table.
Tatum for the first time in his career is averaging a very close 2/1 Assist to turn over ratio. Essentially i'm saying while it's not as glamorous as his PPG which most fans only care about, his decision making has been better thus far.

Zoya was being facetious but yeah Tatum’s decision making is the biggest and most important growth

pretty sure it was during Pierce's career, if not slightly before.
