Nice. Top 5 defensive ratings seem to go wherever Rudy goes. Must be a coincidence.

Of course. But share some love for our resident shot blocker and make ace defender Jaden McDaniels. I like to call the pair MCBear.

Last night they announced that we have had 5 instances of 5 shots blocked in a single game. McDaniels has 2 of those 5. Now we just need Dlo and Ant to improve POA defense and stop making KAT leave his man to cover.

This post from the Lakers thread made me chuckle

Towns has more rebounds than any Laker..... and Gobert has more than twice as many as Towns.

Basketball reference has Rudy leading the league with 15.2 RPG. He is also averaging 15 points on 65.5% EFG.

He also started out 6-6 from the charity stripe. Kinda fell back to earth for a little bit towards the end of the game but I’d take 70% clip any time

Aaaaarrrrrrooooo! Lakers disrespected us by wearing those uniforms. We then simply took their soul. First consecutive wins for the season! Hope they build on this!

How the hell do we have the 5th best defensive rating? We have given up so many threes and open shots? Something doesn't seem right.

… statistically this is against teams going nowhere so it’s bull crap. Second, eye test says we are hardly average at best, and yet again, versus teams going nowhere.

Most conventional defensive wisdom especially in the regular season is to defend the rim at an elite level and force teams to take perimeter/midrange jump shots even if you are over defending and leaving open jump shots and live with the variance... in a general sense this is what we've been doing.

Beating the Lakers is like the Vikings beating the Packers...easily the most satisfying win(s) of the year by far. No matter how good the Lakers or Packers are in any given season when the Wolves or Vikes win against them it soothes my soul.

McBear is pretty good. Of course I prefer RoDaniels. Just kidding.

As Wolves fans we are conditioned to look only for the negative. We are what our ranking says we are. The 5th best D in the NBA. I expect that to get even better.

For the most part this strategy is working well.

Yes, what's more surprising (although the focus has been on the open shots) is that we are 5th in defensive rating while being in the bottom 5 or so in rebound percentage, opponent second chance points, opponent points off of turnovers, and transition points. The transition defense thing is going to be a bugaboo playing with two bigs, but we're not really helping ourselves here playing at one of the leagues highest paces either and all of these things compound off of eachother. However, what they really need to focus on is limiting second chance points, rebounding the ball, and getting back in transition.

If they do that and defend the rim well (this again all compounds off of eachother) then I wouldn't worry so much about the jump shots.
