Re: What's up with Primo? EDIT - Spurs Waive Primo 28-10-2022
I have a hard time believing that this has anything to do with mental illness, child abuse in his past or any other thing they he might play the "victimized" card with. If it was, the Spurs would be falling all over themselves trying to help him.
Instead the team totally erased his existence from the franchise 5 minutes after they found out whatever they found out. He must have really done something crazy. I've never seen anything like this before.

Re: What's up with Primo? EDIT - Spurs Waive Primo 28-10-2022
We see now why it was RC Buford who made the statement to waive and why it was so terse.
We see now why Pop was so curt with reporters about the statement in the pre-game Q&A.
Brian Wright's silence is defeaning.
I hate this all the more as it's our 50th Anniversary Season, a rebuild year, and he didn't seek help before the season started. We could have pivoted in various ways but got stuck into a difficult position. Cutting ties was the only way.

Lurked to see what happened. Spurs are a stand up franchise. NFL and other teams should take notice of how to do things right.

Buford made the statement because it affects the entire organization, of which he’s the head. It isn’t just a basketball issue. No mystery there.
We see now why Pop was so curt with reporters about the statement in the pre-game Q&A.
Pop is notorious for being curt with reporters, even on trivial matters.
Brian Wright's silence is defeaning.
Not really. There’s nothing for him to add. Again, it goes beyond basketball.

The statement issued on Primo’s behalf is spin, obviously. It’s unlikely Primo, himself, took any mental health initiative.
More likely, it seems to me, is that the incident with the Spurs employee led to Primo being ordered to see the team psychiatrist. The Spurs probably did not know, at that time, that Primo was a serial offender.
Then the incident in Minnesota forced home the point that it was a pattern of behavior. Too much to deal with, having him around was toxic, out he goes.

Well yes it does affect the whole organization, but it also speaks to the severity to me as to why RC made the statement.
I still find Wright's silence weird in my gut. It's basketball related to the extent that a marquee reach (or so considered by many based on the reaction when we drafted him), someone considered part of our long-term core, a draft pick (which we haven't had a lot of) is gone. And now we have a roster vacancy where long-term development of a core piece was slotted. It's beyond the team, but it affects the team short and long term. Yeah, I expected him to say something.
Maybe there will be more statements later. Don Harris tweeted about contract status and language that may nullify it because of Primo's actions.
Pop's been an absolute teddy bear this season and even last. Notorious for being curt ignores the matter at hand and better behaviour from notorious days. Pop was visibly affected by the news in the pre-game presser.
I also find the no comments from Primo's agent weird.
About Primo's statement: yeah zero accountability, and cloak of mental health/trauma. Even if the mental health/trauma are legitimate, they were still doing a lot heavy sympathy lifting. Given what little we know now, even that makes his statement be seen in a different light.
We know of two incidents but reports state 'multiple women'. First, ewww creepy AF. So what we know scratches the surface, though those are bad enough. That we picked up his contract for next season indicates to me that we were late to the discovery.
Tom Orsborn's tweet about the mental health available to Primo following Primo's statement (which itself was a response to the Spurs announcement) is a drawing of lines. You had access to help. Did you seek it? Or will you now because you got caught?
The point is that there's still a lot we don't know. What we do know is that there are more women who were affected than the two we've heard about. We have no idea whether the Spurs directed him to see anyone because we have no idea who knew what when.
There's a lot more I have to say about this but I'll wait until we actually know more. The ramifications about this are far reaching and we're just scratching the surface. I really hope it's as simple as it can possibly be. The decisive break is a good start.

He exposed himself to a psychologist

Presumably lawyers are being consluted by the Spurs brass as well. ****.
Houston-based attorney Tony Buzbee is set to discuss allegations made by a former Spurs employee against former Spurs guard Josh Primo at a news conference Thursday morning in Houston.
“At the conference, Tony Buzbee will discuss allegations made by Dr. Cauthen and others against NBA player Josh Primo, the events that precipitated the release of Primo, the veracity of recent public statements made by both the Spurs organization and Primo, interactions with individuals within the San Antonio Spurs organization, and the expected path forward. Dr. Cauthen will be present to make a public statement and answer pertinent questions,” according to a press release received by the Express-News from the Buzbee Law firm.
Spurs chairman Peter J. Holt and Spurs Sports & Information chief executive R.C. Buford did not immediately respond to a request asking for comment.

Well that would be something good:

San Antonio took Primo with the 12th pick in 2021, and they currently owe him a bit more than $8 million through the 2023-24 season. They may not have to pay that if he is found to have violated his contract, but that remains to be seen.

Under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Uniform Player Contract contains the following language:
16. TERMINATION.
(a) The Team may terminate this Contract upon written notice to the Player if the Player shall:
(i) at any time, fail, refuse, or neglect to conform his personal conduct to standards of good citizenship, good moral character (defined here to mean not engaging in acts of moral turpitude, whether or not such acts would constitute a crime)…
So obviously he’s violated his contract. But of course it’ll be up to the lawyers to hash out the financial consequences of it all.
The most astounding thing in all this is, one of the victims is the team psychologist. Good golly gosh. You couldn’t make this up.
Look at the ironic twist it gives that statement he issued - or that was issued on his behalf, about his mental health. He wants to focus more on mental health, huh? Meaning what, he’d like to drop his pants in front of more psychologists? Good golly gosh.
Better it should happen early in the season, rather than later, I suppose. Fortunately, the rest of the team doesn’t seem bothered by his absence. Maybe they’re relieved he’s gone.

From statements to ESPN to those close to him defending him in TMZ somehow:
He's claiming a wardrobe malfunction during therapy session(s), as in he didn't intend to expose himself but while laying down on the couch something may have... you know... while he was in practice shorts. Okaaaayyyyyyy...
So nothing about all the other alleged women, then...
There are some other serious allegations:
https://www.tmz.com/2022/11/02/joshua-primo-denies-intentionally-expose-privates-team-therapist-sources-san-antonio-spurs-nba/?adid=social-twa
Tom Orsborn recently wrote an article detailing her ethical standards vouched for by those who've worked with her:
I have a weird gut feeling about doing a press conference in such a sensitive issue. Yes, truth will out, but it's also messaging through media, jury by public opinion, and so all these extra layers add complexity even with what is barely known or alleged.

Our sources say Primo was shocked by the allegations ... and many in his circle feel he's a young guy who's being taken advantage of by a medical professional twice his age.

OK. THIS is where my question of duty to warn comes in (posted in another thread).
A psychologist's first duty is to her profession, not to the team. Sure report the incidents to the team, but why weren't these reported to authorities?

So the psychologist went to Brian Wright, she alleges he delayed meeting with her, when the meeting happened he assured her the team would look into it and do a 'write-up'.
?s=20&t=dXe7WekdG0tmva1K8D1hGQ
SO now we know why Brian Wright never made a statement...
