Another problem is that the team 100% would look better with McGruder and Key playing than Knox, Hayes, Cojo - that's a bad sign.
Real basic moves like Jalen Smith - 7 fters that play defense and can shoot the 3 - Pistons don't make them. In a year the Pistons had cap space too.
Neither Casey nor Weaver are giving the Pistons the tools to win or even look alright. Bey, Stewart, Hayes are all misses unless they make some miracle upgrades. We all watch playoff basketball and Bey as a SF isnt going to work against Middleton, Tatum/Brown, Butler, Durant, Wiggins, etc. That's a huge gulf. Stewart is going to get punked as a starting C or PF in the playoffs.
GSW did hit on guys like Klay and Draymond. Those are clear differences. Stewart isn't Draymond. I don't think you can play Stewart or Bey in ECF games, even as backups. Those minutes are going to negative. But they are the 1st round picks on the team.
So where does the actual talent come from? To me the rebuild is not looking good - more like a strong claim for the 6th-8th seed in the EC.

I get what you’re saying. I mostly agree - although I think Bey and Stewart are still good rotational guys, both likely suited to come off the bench.
Bey as a 6th man type and Stewart as an energy big off the bench

Jalen Smith is a disaster on defense. He is better and cheaper than Bagley tho.
But yes, we would be much better playing Key and McGruder over those scrubs and that's depressing.

I'm surprised there is/was no talk about Casey using this lineup last night in the 4th quarter before the game was out of hand.
Cade / Bey / Bojan / Stewart / Duren
Everyone here has been clamoring for more size.... I'm wondering what people thought of these five guys together.
Those guys have played together for just 4 minutes total this season which is way too small of a sample size for anything.... BUT...
76.5 TS% while on the floor together, but of course they also got torched by Atlanta so not sure its a positive lineup or not at this point.

Stewart was really good at FG% he allowed opponents inside 5 ft in his first two seasons... but he's been bad this year.
We could really use a defensive wing like a Bruce Brown or a KCP type player that can both knock down an open 3 point shot and also defend. We need to get rid of Killian and get a wing defender that can hit 3s and defend because just defending isn't good enough and Killian also has seemingly regressed on defense this season.

Any lineup with Bey, Bojan and Stew is going to struggle to be positive.

I missed the game, but this sounds right. The Bey/Bojan pairing is a train wreck defensively and Bey is also a dumpster fire offensively.Manocad wrote:bstein14 wrote:I'm surprised there is/was no talk about Casey using this lineup last night in the 4th quarter before the game was out of hand.

I still believe Bey has the tools to be a 22-6-4 type of player, but whatever has been going on with him developmentally is not good. He wants to be something he's not.

Hope not. He's the perfect coach to drive the tank
Yeah I would be surprised if the GM who is always looking to add draft picks is going to fire a coach whos setting us up for the worst record in a epic draft. I think the plan is stink the joint up this season fire Casey and then get a new coach and go for it next season.
Yes exactly!!! Need the right coach to run the tank

bey definitely has offensive skills to build on. i think working on his handle going forward would be most beneficial for him, and bojan is a great example why. bojan is insanely slow but is very skilled in terms of his dribbling, shooting and overall touch. you can see how his drives are very economical, because he has enough control to keep the ball in front of him for a straight-line drive. bey, on the other hand, doesn't have as much control with his handle so constantly relies on putting his body between his defender and the ball to protect it which slows his drives down and gives more time for help defense to arrive.
bojan was always a good shooter but it wasn't until his 5th season in the league (when he was 29 years old) that he averaged more than 15 points a game. i think bey definitely has things to work on but to say he's a dumpster fire offensively is rather harsh imo, and every player is going to look like they're trying to be something they're not while they try to add new things to their game.

Some expect Bey to improve his game in the off-season and then apply that perfectly in every game during the season.
While we aren't expected to win much our young guys should be looking to add to or round out their games.
The idea being they develop the skillset this season in order to apply ASAP. It's a constant improvement kinda thing, especially reading defences off the bounce or off the catch.
I expected us to be a Lottery team in the 6-10 range this season. So far so good lol

For the 2nd half of last season Bey was essentially a 17-18 PPG scorer with a league average TS% of about 56% ... He had a horrible start to last season but finished looking promising I thought with Grant gone he might bump that to closer to 20 PPG this season but it looks like he's off to another rocky start this season. Hopefully he hits mid season form a bit earlier this year.
