Eh, at best we’re talking the Lakers failing into like a 6% chance of landing Wemby. Yeah it could happen but it’s too unlikely to be licking chops about it now imo.

The depth of this draft is getting lost in all the Wemba hype. I'd gladly take a top 10-12 pick.

It will take luck for any team to land Wemba even with the best odds. Lady luck has yet to smile on the Pels.

I'm perfectly content with any of Wallace, Scoot, Smith, Miller, Amen, Mitchell, Ausur, Jackson, Black & Ware

what do you mean by "at best"?

Lebron hasn't been the picture of health in these later years, AD is one the most injury prone players ever and they have very little apart from these two

if they don't trade WB and picks for some win now vets and\or one or two of these can't play for extended periods in the season (especially if they happen to be injured at the same time) this Laker team might finish dead last and more realistically - be bottom 5

if they lose to Denver tonight (quite likely with AD out) they're already in a 0-6 hole

the league is pretty stacked rn and they're already a few games behind even most of the bottom dwelling teams and most of those teams have already shown more ability and willingness to compete night in night out than the Lakers

edit: perhaps it's unlikely but it's certainly possible and plausible, "at best" 6% simply isn't true

I think it's below 1% chance that Lakers pick goes to number 1.

You're getting hyped when Lakers were expected to only win 1 of their first 6 games.. If they win tonight they meet expectations, if they lose then they are only down 1 win than was expected. This is baked in to them being a playoff team too.

Their schedule is tough now but easier beyond the first month, they have no reason to lose and tanking teams haven't even begun.

i'm not getting "hyped" whatsoever
i'm not a Lakers hater or a Pels fan :)

you think it's below 1% and that's fine, perhpas your guesstimation is better than mine but imo the likelihood of that is much higher.
still pretty low but much higher than 1% that's for sure

what do u mean by they were "expected" to win 1/6, how come?

yeah, they had a tough schedule and i certainly don't expect them to go 0-82 :)

the point was, they don't have a lot of talent and with the pressure on..doesn't seem like they have alot of fight in them either
this is a unique season, very few games if any are a cakewalk

bottom 5 is certainly possible for them
bottom 1 would be a real implosion and that's unlikely, I agree
but bottom 5 is still a shot at number 1

not hyped..pretty indifferent actually

The first 6 games of the Lakers schedule were likely to be losses except for the Portland game. That was the one they dropped and they really should have won it.

After tonight they should go 9-5. They were expected get to 10-10 on 1st of December. From there they should stay around .500 for most of the season and then creep up towards .600 by seasons end.

first, i'm not sure you understand how probabilty works
if they were underdogs in 5 of the first 6 games, that doesn't mean they were expected to be 1-5 - two very different things

secondly, they will not be going 9-5 in those 14 games. just a hunch :)

we'll revisit this later in the season

Yeah, its fun to hate on the Lakers now, but even if both AD and LBJ go down they won't be able to out tank Orlando, Kings, Spurs, Jazz, Rockets. Worst case they would end up 6th worst with like a 7.5% chance of losing/winning the lottery. Hell, I bet they even make a trade at the trade deadline to 'win-now' just to climb the standings slightly to decrease the chance of embarrassingly giving NOP the #1 pick.

I have only heard great things about Amen and Ausar Thompson thanks my nba pods with the draft experts like Sam Vecenie. They sound like ideal guard, wings in the modern NBA.

I'm really curious about guys going late in top ten or players drafted around pick 13-30. Who might become surprise gem becoming great player like a Kawhi/Giannis/Butler/Paul George. Or atleast quality allstar level player like Desmond Bane. Is there even a player like that people miss on?

Wemby, Henderson usually the top 3 become good or superstars like Zion, Morant,Luka, Tatum types. To me more fun to see how great players are missed, not hyped on their draft night. :)

No, the Lakers won't finish dead last--at some point multiple teams will get serious about losing and they'll easily place well below a team like the Lakers, who will try to win every minute Lebron and AD are around and have nothing to gain by being bad this year.

If you want to grill me on the 'at best,' sure there is a chance that everything falls apart and the Lakers finish in the bottom 6 of the league, like there's a chance that I'll die today. If you want to talk as two regular basically intelligent humans trying to have a conversation about the question 'what's a reasonable range for that Lakers draft pick?' then I'll stand by saying that it seems overwhelmingly likely to be somewhere between #7-20.

I agree that they're highly unlikely (almost impossible) for them to be at the very bottom and no1 is arguing otherwise

20 seems delusional to me, tbh

I would say the range of like #6-10 is the most likely

but however one estimates that range, whether it's 6% or 10% that's still significantly more likely than 1%

"at best" implies that 6% is the max but i think it's certainly plausible the Pels will have 10%

that still means the Pels are very unlikely to get Wemby but are pretty likely to get a high pick out of this (in the event of the Lakers actually finishing 6-10)

I mean.. just last season they had "nothing to gain" by losing either but they still managed to finish with the 8th worst record in the league, ya know?

The road to the championship is a long and hard one, but it looks like several teams have gotten off to a rather strong start.

The surprise of the group is the Lakers who seem to be one AD injury from already shutting things down.

Also, now that Nash is no longer running the tank in Brooklyn will that spoil their chances!?

Image

The competition is fierce but no one, not even the mighty Magic, has managed to lose all their games.

That said, the Magic are looking very strong with Banchero leading their tank efforts. I’m not sure any other team will be able to catch them since I’m not sure any other player on their team besides Paulo actually deserves an NBA roster spot. They are defining bad right now in the NBA and that is a very good thing!

Tonight, it will be fun watching them play the Thunder who desperately need a loss after having a 50/50 record thus far. That will not get you very far in this sweepstakes! But it is a long grind and Okc are masters at this so we need to give them time.

OKC needs to trade SGA away for a strong leader with limited skills offensive skills like FVV!

That was just a joke actually. Don't take the Wemby championship competition too seriously! We need to keep our sense of humor to survive! And yeah I have watched them and probably their "Robin" Franz is their next best player... But man after that, not looking good but it's early and no doubt there are other teams who will challenge them!
