Re: Fake Trade Thread #4
The value of our subs will only be known over time. But I doubt we get sudden excellence from guys who’ve had struggles over time. Like DSJ and suspect he could be our primary reserve PG, but Maledon may ultimately be the better player. Richards is better than Plum but doubtful he’s the long term answer. Mason needs to be dealt at some point. McDaniels is a valuable sub, never a competitor for 6th man award, but a good contributor.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah, I'm high on Maledon but would be awesome if they both work out. I think Richards has made a big leap though. He's been able to find good angles to finish plays with layups/little hooks and runners. Excellent screener. Really excited to pair him with LaMelo and see what happens.
McD is a solid role player. The gap between him and PJ is smaller than most think IMO.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #4
Honestly wondering if we should trade Rozier and go with DSJ starting at the 2 long-term. Better defender than Terry, might be a better fit w Melo as well.
When I die, have Michael Jordan bury me so he can let me down one last time.

Define Long term. No clue what Resigning dsj looks like.nature_boyy97 wrote:Honestly wondering if we should trade Rozier and go with DSJ starting at the 2 long-term. Better defender than Terry, might be a better fit w Melo as well.
And the magic game showed a huge weakness that will be exploited if we don't find more shooters. Melo and Terry were greatly missed in that one.
What I do know is that we won't be trading Terry to clear room for bouk to start lol

I just don't see it with Bouknight. After the next solid game he has, ship him for a reliable bench shooter. McDermott, Clarkson (we'd have to add a lot), someone like that

We don’t need more guards, Smith and Maledon are holding the fort now and we have Ball, Rozier and Martin coming back.

Maybe I'm heartless but even after last night I still think we should tell PJ to kick rocks and throw a bag at Grant Williams.

I wouldn't take on a mediocre guy on a multi-year deal just to get rid of him, but if he has any real value around the league, I wouldn't mind moving on, once we've fully established that one or both of DSJ/Theo are keepers.
I don't know that he's worth the baggage, and I doubt there's much of a market after his DUI, so we may be stuck with him unless we just punt him for like the 50th pick next year or something. Just stash him in Greensboro once their season starts, best case scenario is something clicks for him and we have an extra guard for next year. If there's a 1st rounder out there for him we should take it immediately.

I just looked at his bbref page and was blown away. He currently has a 1.1 PER, -10.8 BPM, 36.4 ts%, and a -38 net rating.

I'm bewildered we picked up his third year option. Jarrett Culver and Jalen Smith are better than this guy.

One of those clickbait hypothetical trade articles suggested a Bouk swap with SA for Zach Collins. Id kick the tires on him

Re: Fake Trade Thread #4
Bouk for a 2nd (or two) probably brings back the most value given Mitch's track record
Mitch: So, Bouk for a 2023 2nd rounder?
Rival GM: Wait..you're not even going to try asking for a 1st?
Mitch: Yeah, well, I suck at those. 2nds are more my thing.

Are the Hornets eager to offload Rozier and his long deal? If so, what would they want? Simple expirings or a couple of seconds?

Yeah - Terry is in his prime and has averaged around 20 points a game the last 3 seasons. Seconds and/or expirings aren't moving that needle. Think we'd be looking at either a young upside guy and filler or a FRP and expiring.

So the length of his contract isn't seen as a detriment? Would anyone give up a first for three years of Rozier? He's a great player in a league of many. I'm only asking.

Contract length is a valid concern. Who knows when he'll fall off, but he's a short guy approaching 30. That stated, he’s a guaranteed 20 ppg the next few years – one of the best catch and shoot 3 point shooters in the league. I think he's objectively worth what I mention in trade and in a league where guys like Poole are earning $30mm a year and cap increases are likely, Terry’s contract is looking less and less burdensome. Situationally, I agree – there aren’t a ton of scenarios around the league that make sense for both teams in terms of need vs. fair compensation, which may mean we ride his contract out, especially since we aren’t paying Miles Bridges.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #4
If that's the case it looks like for at least the next three years our core is:
Melo
Rozier
PJ
Richards
With DSJ, Martin, & Williams locked in for our bench. We need a co-star for Melo and it's gotta be a wing on the verge of All-Star.
