Are media reporters out of line?

Post#1 » by Statlanta » Wed Nov 2, 2022 6:56 pm

Are media reporters doing good jobs in your opinion?

I haven’t been following the Kyrie thing but Nick Friedell seems to have struck a chord with his question on the Anti-Semitic and people are mixed on him asking the questions he did to Kyrie on his Twitter. many reporters are asking players and coaches to weigh in on the Nets situation. Woj literally asked Myles Turner about his fit on another team.

Are media members going too far or are they just doing their jobs?

Why are there soooo many players a part of the media now? They all love this drama - you hear more about it than actual game related stuff.

no. it's in the attitude. the WAY the reporter asks the question.
we've seen many reporters being real D**** with a clear sense of empowerment like they think it's a god given right and that they(the reporters) can go unleashed. there's a reporter on 60minutes who i can't stand because of this very thing

however, i think many reporters don't go far enough asking the tough question,,,mainly all reporters seem, imo, to fall short of calling out a player for saying something idiotic,,,with my full understanding that they can't P' off a player for fear of being excommunicated from the press room.

the kyrie thing has gone into uncharted territory. i wouldn't mind if they question him until he decides to become a forest ranger because of it,,,,and goes away forever. it was fun before, now it's mind numbing and i'm mentally censoring this idiot like i do with skip and stephenA

Without media the NBA would be nothing.

What is the largest sporting event in the world that receives virtually no media coverage?

Media is the lifeblood of professional sports.

The only real problem with "the media" in sports coverage is that there just aren't many reporters that cover a team. A press conference used to have dozens of reporters. Maybe you got one follow question if you were lucky. There was no back and forth. Now? You've got maybe 1 guy who covers a team full time locally and then a handful of national figures. Everyone else there is just part time or freelance trying to get a quote. So now you have a spotlight on the 1 local, full time guy. If he asks 10 really assertive or combative questions, it's entirely different than if 10 separate reporters were asking the same questions.

Is Elon Musk "going too far" for helping Ukraine?
some things such as basic human rights, war crimes and atrocities, racism (in the form of anti-semitism in this particular case which is probably the world's longest standing form of extereme racism that has also led to several genocides and many other atrocities) are more important that what your profession is, or on what a person in a certain position should or shouldn't do

devotion to humanity transcends politics and percieved boundaries

some ppl might call the aim of this devotion - justice :)

Myles was asked a question its up to him how he answers lol.

And on the Kyrie question. No they're not stepping out of line. They're doing their job as a reporter. Some of them ask their questions in a confrontational way in regards to Kyrie. Maybe thats where the problem lies. But It's understandable given Kyrie's track record.

Kyrie is still a weirdo but Friedel has always been trash, that much I know.

I'm guessing some media members could be a little more professional, but hey, it's the price to pay for free publicity.

Nick Friedell had entitlement in his voice to me. Like he was Kyrie's dad and needed to teach him a lesson. He wouldn't drop it lol.

I used to eat up whatever Shams and Woj reported but I've noticed them being flat out wrong quite a bit lately. It's more about their own egos and being the first one to "report" it than actually getting the story right. I guess I'm a little off topic here since I wouldn't call it "out of line." But they kinda suck lately imo.

As far as Kyrie goes, it's just pointless to debate the guy because he is so entrenched in his own self and refuses to be challenged. It's all provocation and no substance. I don't think Freidel was out of line while interacting with him though. (Although I didn't see the point of it and Friedel is generally annoying.)

There's a little piece about it on the RGM homepage btw...

As he shouldn't. Its reporters job to press the issue even when the person they're interviewing is acting like a child and speaking over them.

By "entitlement" you mean "journalistic integrity" by not letting Kyrie get off without having his statements challenged.

As long as they ask about public matters then it’s fair game. Only thing they should avoid are private matters.

It’s the media’s job to ask questions people are interested in. That’s what this reporter did. Kyrie didn’t want to answer.

Now he is pouting and refusing to come to post game media sessions. That is on him. When he does something controversial it’s not possible just to hide behind basketball.

Was Tim Duncan babied because he stayed out of controversy? Why are the superstars who make an effort to stay out of controversy somehow babied?

Why should they say something negative about Curry?

Kyrie shared an anti-Semitic movie. The reporter was questioning him on that. Considering how the NBA has dealt with Donald Sterling, BLM, and being the voice for social change, I’m actually surprised Kyrie hasn’t gotten more criticism and questions about sharing an anti-Semitic movie.

Can you imagine the backlash if a white player shared a movie that was racist against black people on their platform? He’d face criticism, questions, lose sponsors, maybe even get fined, suspended, or cut. Kyrie does it and faces no consequences. And then when a reporter asks him about it Kyrie says the reporter is “dehumanizing,” him and we have a thread if a reporter is out of line.

Maybe that’s because Kyrie shared an anti-Semitic movie? If Alex Caruso shared a pro-KKK movie, like “Birth of a Nation,” would you feel that he should be taught a lesson?
