She gave in to the pressure. Hard to not see this coming given her earlier comments last month.

Now his agent will start chatting with the NBA via the players association to try and wiggle out from under harsh punishment so he can sign with someone. What a POS.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

It’s difficult to send wealthy people to jail

At least closure is upon us. What happens next? There’s a lot of nuances here, he has not had to formally admit to the crime so could the NBA still suspend him? He was also not under contract with the NBA/Hornets when it occurred, right?

After that part, what do the Hornets do? If he’s able to avoid suspension (aside from the backlash that I’m confident won’t be long term) do they sign him or lose him for absolutely nothing?

I'd be surprised if they don't re-sign him. He doesn't have any trade value and it doesn't make sense to let him walk for nothing.

Makes a lot of since from a PR perspective. I highly doubt they let him walk either though

I don't think professional sports teams care about bad PR. See Watson in the NFL getting a record deal and Draymond assaulting his own teammate and not being suspended for it.

My guess is he'll be back here soon on a multi year, partially guaranteed deal, and immediately be suspended for 50 games. The fallout will be hard for a few days, then dissipate. The fact he has to do counseling and parenting training will help the team's PR. And I bet there will be a drug test provision in the contract

During his three-year probation, Bridges, 24, will have to undergo 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and 52 weeks of parenting classes, serve 100 hours of community service, and undergo weekly narcotics testing with marijuana allowed only if there is a valid doctor's prescription. He cannot own any guns or ammunition or any dangerous weapons. He also will have to pay a restitution fine of $300 and a domestic violence fine of $500, and obey the terms of a 10-year protective order, staying 100 yards away from and having no contact with the woman. Bridges and the woman maintain custody over their two children, and any visitation or exchange of children must be done peacefully and through a neutral third party.

Yeah, but I think the team can put it in the contract that if he fails or is caught with drugs he'll be voided, as he'll violate probation and likely go to jail

His sentence is basically a "stick to basketball or you're done" so it kinda helps us (or his next team)

Wasn't expecting this news today. Still trying to process it. My early prediction is that they'll retain him and he'll get suspended 30-50 games.

He pleaded no contest...what pressure did she give in to? She doesn't have input on the terms of the plea deal, seems to me that she's upset with the outcome.

At the moment, Bridges remains unsigned, but if he were to sign with a team, the NBA, under the collective bargaining agreement, has the right to suspend, fine, dismiss or disqualify him from any further association from the league because he pleaded no contest.

That's a good thing. He deserves a long suspension. Dude should've went to jail

Lame outcome, but not terribly surprising.

I agree with the others who speculated we'll probably sign him to a new deal. It's the right decision from a cold and calculating perspective, and although it would be more satisfying for me personally to see Miles released in all probability that would just send him straight to bigger and better things (Miami, LA, Brooklyn) rather than serving as any form of punishment.

It will be interesting to see if/what punishment the league hands down. It's hard to argue he doesn't deserve it.

I think the Hornets should sign him with a caveat laden contract if only to trade him later. I am disgusted by his actions and hope he genuinely wants to rebuild his life and family ties but from a business stand point we need to get something out of him. Ugly all around.

Is he an UFA? Or does Charlotte still maintain matching rights? Was the QO extended or accepted? Did they try to get an extension done last summer but couldn't agree on it? If that's the case, I bet he really regrets that.

He's basically a RFA with no QO option becuase he didn't accept it, so we have his rights still

Kyrie being suspended by the Nets indefinitely puts this story on the backburner at least

So if you plan on keeping him, and lets be honest, small market Charlotte....it sucks for them too that this happened when he was such a breakout star on the rise...but they can't really afford to just lose one of their 2 main pieces they got in the draft.

But he will likely be a bargain now.

How do you see the Charlotte fanbase reacting to him coming back? Mostly negative? Mixed?

He needs to be giving a lot back to the community and getting mental health or anger management treatment or whatever he needs and maybe later speaking about it.

Honestly I have no idea. Like any other sport, I imagine winning cures all ills. We are talking about the most cursed franchise in the NBA though, I can see them releasing him and him blowing up somewhere else while other fanbases ridicule us, just to add insult to injury. The only thing I know for certain is he's on the shortest of all leashes...the next ****, he's out of the NBA. That could help in the public relations battle.
