OG Embracing His DPOY Identity
One encouraging sign is seeing OG embrace his identity primarily as a Defensive stopper, and also getting more recognition of this around the league.
At the beginning of the season, much was made of OG's desire to expand his offensive role and game. You also saw that in the first few games of the season, where he tried to initiate the offense with not so great results.
I honestly thought, Raps would give OG at least 20 games to try to figure this out but it seems OG has wise up. In recent games, when Pascal and GTJ are off the floor, i see OG gets the ball sometimes, to try to create offense at the top of key, but OG doesn't necessarily force it anymore.
Instead, seeing OG putting increased effort on the defensive side.
I think this will be good for OG long-term, as an increased defensive reputation will mean, Refs won't call fouls on him as often, and help him stay in the game longer (see PJ Tucker).
Also good for Raps too.
Overall, happy OG is embracing his defensive identity, and not trying to force things as much on offense.

Re: OG Embracing His DPOY Identity
The best version of OG is DPOY candidate who shoots 3s and is a secondary scorer.
That version of OG will get him paid lots of money.

He forces it plenty. His turnovers are pretty high given his usage. OG doesn’t have the handle or vision to attack off the dribble. They should give him the ball in the post where he can bully guys down to the basket or make a quick move to create space and get a little shot off. He needs to have less decision making outside of his own move to score.

Two other cool OG stats:
OG is tied for 5 in total deflections.
OG is tied for 9 for total loose balls recovered.

Re: OG Embracing His DPOY Identity
This is why you coach OG to improve his offense no matter how bad it looks. This pushes him to improve his overall game. We can always have OG reign it in when necessary (ie playoffs).
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

Exactly. Precious should be striving for the exact same role. That is playing winning basketball and that’s what earns you money.

Re: OG Embracing His DPOY Identity
OG probably realized pretty early on that not all 5 of them can get 20+ PPG realistically, so instead of trying to become this #1/#2 option, he's focusing on honing his already good offense while becoming amazing defensively. If he wins DPOY he's worth 25m/year easily anyway.

If he learns to throw a wild behind the back pass every game and hassle his opponents for poker debts he will truly have elevated himself to a whole nother level..

Let's playin for 9th!

Re: OG Embracing His DPOY Identity
Given OGs play.. and everything else the team would have to give up..
Do you do the trade of OG/Trent/multiple picks for KD
I.. don't know if I do.
Maybe it's my pure homer showing but 34 year old with extensive injury history..

I would’ve done it in the summer but not anymore. Yesterdays price, is not todays price!!!
I’d be more open to giving OG 30mil per year than Fvv.
