Oh no the Kings suck...again
Looking like another season of missing the playoffs, I do not care if MIke Brown is literally a brand new coach and Sabonis was just now traded over. The West is the worst it's been, the Kings have had a top 5 easiest schedule and are so far 2-5. Currently they are facing the Magic on the road and could very well lose this game as they are currently down 11 points near the end of the first half.
The Kings decided to trade Haliburton for Sabonis for some reason (no one really understand why) and today Haliburton looks like a certified All Star on a Pacers team that has beaten some very legitimate opposition.
The Kings might have the worst bench in the league next to Detroit. Somehow the On-Off between the starters and bench players is MILES. FWIW Fox and Huerter have been balling. Huerter is averaging 18 ppg and 50% from 3 but this is an awfully familiar look as Huerter is basically mimicking what Buddy Hield did for years in Sacramento anyways.
Fox managing to drop 24 ppg on elite efficiency, Sabonis has been quiet so far, he falls behind even Keegan Murray in terms of shots.
Keegan has been good for sure, but his skillset is a highly complimentary one, not one that is the focal point of an offense.
Harrison Barnes has been awful so far shooting 38% from the field and 17% from 3. Somehow he's still averaging 11 points???
Oh no..their defense still sucks, opponents are shooting their highest eFG vs. Sac. Bottom 10 defense, Bottom 10 offense, what is this roster construction?? How are Sabonis and Fox supposed to work together again? Just pick and roll to the rim?? Haliburton was the perfect guy to pair with Sabonis but they traded him for Sabonis
Just complete incompetence all around, the curse will live on in Sacramento.

Feel bad for you King fans. Watched them since Webber days. I stay up late after Pacer games watch alot of Kings games.
My perspective. If Fox was your guy why draft Hali in the furst place? Another PG. He's blossomed running the show in Indy. He's not a off guard. You compounded the problem by drafting yet another PG.
You may have got it right drafting Murray like him alot. Maybe 3rd best rookie so far. It's early in the season you might turn it around and make the playoffs.

Looks like Kings traded away the wrong point guard. Tyrese Halliburton looks he could become a all star caliber player this season. De'Aaron Fox is really good, however Tyrese is the better playmaker, a better defender and has more room to grow as a player compared to Fox due to slightly younger. With that said, it's very early in the season and I expect teams like the Spurs, Thunder, and maybe the Jazz all regress to the mean of being bad teams, which the opens the door for the Kings to make the play -in tournament.

We already know what’s going to happen. Kings are going to finish with the 7th worst record in the NBA. They are somehow going to wind up with the 2nd overall pick. They are going to pass on Scoot. Keegan Murray will be traded for Jordan Clarkson.

Not that one game changes a lot or that it is now over, but funny that you made this thread when they were down about 20 and at the time of writing they are now up 9.

Re: Oh no the Kings suck...again
In March of 2021 I created a thread asking which team would not make the playoffs from 2021 until 2026. Most people voted Timberwolves (48%) followed by Kings (19%) and Rockets (18%). viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2058795
Around 2014 I started getting this feeling that the Kings might never make the playoffs again. I expect OKC to be a playoff team again at some point and the Rockets also have some good talent that will get the to POs in a couple of years. I really don't see the Kings making it before 2035, but it would definitely be wiser to re-evaluate in a couple of years.

So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Problem was nobody was willing to take De'Aaron Fox at the contract he was currently on not to mention there were few vacancies for starting pg spots available and the ones that were there are/were on rebuilding squads. There was that proposed deal of Simmons/Harris going to Sacramento but Morey turned that down and ultimately SAC dodged a bullet with how awful Simmons has looked so far.

I think its early but still I feel bad for Kings fans. Really starting to wonder who wins a playoff round first, the Detroit Lions or the Kings?

Re: Oh no the Kings suck...again
I'm not out on the Kings yet. They started poorly, going 0-4 but losing to good teams. They gone 2-1 since, splitting a pair against Miami, and smacking around a bad Charlotte team. They offense and defense looked a long strong over their last 3.
- They need to keep Sabonis more involved. Their offense is better when they're getting more inside-out stuff and it provides more room for Keegan to be a sneaky cutter. OP focused on his field goal attempts, but Sabonis is averaging 6apg (leading the team) and is second on the team in usage. The Fox/Sabonis duo is the engine of this offense, and I think they need a little less Fox and a little more Sabonis. That might happen naturally when Fox's hot shooting cools a bit.
- Barnes will perk up. Even if he doesn't have a great season, he's going to play better than this.
- Their starters are playing well (except Barnes). They all have strong on/offs (except Barnes). Their offense is working overall, they just had a rocky start.
- The bench is just an absolute mess right now. They need to get positive contributions somewhere. Rishaun Holmes will play better. The backcourt depth should be a strength with Monk, T.Davis, and Mitchell. Their frontcourt depth was always going to be iffy.
Their schedule isn't too brutal in the coming weeks, so hopefully we see them continue to play better.

I don’t understand why anyone rated them highly going into the season. Trading Haliburton was an absolute disaster and they have terrible defensive pieces.

Could have drafted Doncic and put all the bad stuff behind them. But nope. Talk about franchise murder.

Would Scoot and Fox work? What I’ve seen of Scoot so far, his 3-pt game is non-existent to atrocious. His FT% is not bad though, so hopefully the mechanics are right for him to be a better outside shooter.
