Rivalry Saturday: Atlanta vs New Orleans

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sat Nov 5, 2022 4:14 pm

Hawks return home to host Pelicans

Image

The Atlanta Hawks (5-3) return home from a five-game road trip to host the New Orleans Pelicans (5-3) on Saturday evening. The Hawks schedule does not lighten up any despite returning home, as their next nine games are all vs. fairly stiff competition. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray have continued to carry much of the load for Atlanta and look like one of the better backcourts across the league. While there have been growing pains, the two stars appear to complement each other fairly well on the court.

The Pelicans may be poised to rise up the Western Conference ladder this season if Zion Williamson is able to stay on the court. A core of Williamson, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram and some intriguing young pieces makes New Orleans a trendy not-so-sleeper pick out West this year. This will be a tough matchup for the Hawks, who need to take care of business at home during this difficult stretch of the schedule.

New Orleans will be on a back-to-back on Saturday following their win over the short-handed Golden State Warriors at home on Friday evening. The Hawks will have the rest edge on their home floor in this spot as they last played Wednesday in New York in what was a convincing come-from-behind win over the Knicks.

I'm a little anxious about the game tonight.

Will the Hawks:

1. Be still on a high from that amazing NY comeback and not locked in and focused

2. Be a little too relaxed at home and let their guard down.

3. NOP is on a back to back, won vs GSW last night, Hawks are on 2 days (much needed) rest

4. Will Trae play and be effective?

I'm going the opposite direction. I think we'll easily take this one.

Would really like to see JC get that 3ball back on track.
Currently 24%, going 1-19 over his last 6 games for 5.2%.

This is a pretty big contest. Early in the season but if the Hawks want to be real this season, they need to start showing it. A big home game against an up coming team with a big rest advantage really needs to be a W. And of course, 6-3 looks a lot better than 5-4

Trae and the bigs need to play better

This sequence was impressive. Then Trae (and DjM) reverted to hero ball with no passing...

When TY is focused on passing and play-making instead of taking tough, contested, off-balance jumpers -- he's pretty impressive.

Clint looked like Clint.

JJ with some good minutes off the bench.

Murray with the timely steal in OT, plus Triple Double.

JC with a much needed 3.

Trae/CC PnR was money.

The defense was on point (until the final 3 minutes)

Terrible execution down the stretch but I'll take the win.

Please, Please end the JHol experiment.

I can't stop watching this....left handed, high arcing with spin, pinpoint for the perfect catch and shoot. Happy for JC, hopefully this Jumpstarts the return of his 3pt shot.

Trae had twelve turnovers. Five actual turnovers and seven missed threes that to me are turnovers.

 are you also counting Murray’s missed 7 3s too. Makes ZERO sense....but it's Trae so different metrics, smh.

Murray’s not throwing up long bombs every game and actually plays defense. There's plenty of negatives about Trae's game that I don't have to be content with.

Big win. Keep it up Hawks. More JJ and AJ and much less JH
