Mal bad pass and bad body language for the mistake. Best thiing to do is haul ass back on D or get in on the player who stole it.

Good man D on their mano-a-mano dribble shot attempt.

Hall gets up on ball handler in case they want to score late in the game. Foul. They dribble it out.

4TH Q: SPURS 101 NUGGETS 126
When you lose all four Qs, you lose the game. I'm here for your key insights all season
It's disappointing that we allowed 126 on only 88 shots, we allowed 15 3s on the best 3s shooting team, that we allowed another 15TOs even if that's below our too high rate.
We had a few spurts of energy at the beginning of Qs, but the defensive intensity just wasn't there. Our rotations were off too often, our coverage was weak too often, and the GAF level was too low for too many stretches.
Pop's timeout where he sat with the team and was all enraged about what they ought to be doing isntead of what they were doing had our attention upstairs, but the translation into legs didn't last long.
I wanted us to get to the FT line more and we did but a woeful 11-19FTs is inexcusable. We used to do suicide drills after practice for missed FTs. Wonder if that would motivate? These should be automatic.
But you know it's bad when Doug of all players, a career 82% shooter from the charity stripe, tied for second best on the team at 83.3% this season, makes only 1-3.
Doug had one of those just off can't get anything going games.
And when you have only four players with decent efficiency - Devin, Diop, Keldon, and Jakob, and you're not scoring enough points, there's barely any room for defensive errors and we had plenty of those which also cost us.
I think that all charged up Pop timeout was about the D, and although altitude and travel on a B2B surely had their effects, I didn't like the body language of too many players when they made mistakes on O when the D was where a lot of mistakes were made. Far too lackadaisical on switches, rotations, contests, etc.
But on O, when Keldon and Jakob both score well in double figures, having the other three starters combining for 13 points, it just doesn't cut it. Ironically, from among improved shot Tre, sharp shooter Mal, and work in progress shooting Sochan, it was the latter who made the lone 3 among the three of them. They combined 1-6 from the arc. Jakob doesn't take any. So the perssure on Keldon was all the higher to make his. And make them he did at 4-6 but he can't do it alone.
Devin also made 4-6 from the arc, and the bench actually made 7 of our 12-30 from 3, but it was just too much not only from the arc against, but particularly in transition with 26-8 in fast break points against. In addition to bad coverage on man D, our effort in running back on D was uncharacteristically poor. Just a lot of plays taken off, and uncharacteristically from players who we usually rely on to be steadier, like Jakob. Yes his man assignment was a two-time MVP, but he was on the court for the team worst -23.
Havin two rookies in the starting line-up is a challenge, too. Mal needs to settle in. Feels like the moment is still too big for him. Sochan we absolutely need to involve more on O. I know he's not known as an outside shooter, but he's doing a lot of little and big things on both ends, is selfless, and we look off him when he works to get open. We missed several passes to him to give hima chance to score. Reward to work.
We have a losing streak that matches our longest winning streak now, and we get to do this all over again at home in a couple of days.
Hopefully the rest, hopefully Devin starting, hopefully Collins being back, and hopefully some film adjsutments and pride of play kicks in and fosters some much better effort. It's not so much the loss but how we lost. And in terms of developmental progress sometimes you have to take a step backwards. Learning to deal with travel B2Bs, learning to play in altitude, playing with effort through faitgue is where we struggled.
Some home and play right way pride is up next for the revenge game in a couple of days.

Great job tonight guys!!!
I'm glad we are finally settling in and focusing on the task at hand.
McDermott was great tonight. Might have been one of his best games as a Spur. His tanking experience will be invaluable to us as the season moves on.
Kudos to Pop and the coaching staff for putting that lineup together to get us back on track.
I'm a little concerned about how Vassell, Poeltl and Johnson are playing. They are playing their way right to the DL if they keep this up.
Still a GREAT team effort!! GSG!
