If we got Star Writers, Indy has punched well above their weight. Candace Buckner, C Jemal Horton, and Sekou Smith in recent years. Didn’t Mike Wells cover the team for a bit before stepping over to the Colts?

Candace Buckner is one of the best around, though. I still make a point of reading her stuff.

Yup, Wells covered the Pacers before the Colts gig.

Buckner was an all-time great. Shes up there with the best. I loved her writing style. Other then her, i also liked Mark Montieth and Nate Taylor.

I LIKED Montieth. He’s straight up entering “okd man just wants old style basketball” territory now. For example, he’s upset Halliburton shot the ball last night.

But yeah, Candace Buckner has always been one of the easiest reads for me in the league.

I apologize in advance I don’t know this guy, so I know nothing about him, but the guy who criticized the Indy star just 2 weeks ago for being cheap is the new best writer? Lol he must’ve not been in the running then other wise he’s an idiot for troll them while the interview process was going on.

Regardless, hope he’s good. Glad Indy star got somebody.

Dustin has been one of their IU beat writer off and on for a couple years. He was laid off for a bit, I think, before getting re hired 2-3 years back.

He’s been good on the IU beat. We’ll see how he does on the Pacers? I’d bet he’ll do well, but it’s still weird and a knock on IndyStar that they didn’t have an official beat writer in place before the season. Their intern Wilson Moore did well for his time in the role, but it’s silly they had temporary placements in what should be a flagship role for the paper.

I don’t know what the criticism you’re noting is. Was it from Dustin? Or from me? I know the staff in Gannett/IndyStar have been locked in national negotiations to keep jobs as Gannett has been laying off staff and is forcing employees to use personal days before the end of the year.

Dustin was very active on Twitter posting about IU. Technically his articles were in the Bloomington paper but the Star had them too. When I lived on a lake off 67 we got the Sunday Bloomington paper; the IU coverage was better than the Stars. I think he'll be fine and there are some senior guys to handle IU.

Awesome, i look forward to it. I'm old school, i love to browse twitter and of course read comments on this forum to get a fans perspective but i really love to lay down and read what journalists covering the team have to say. So i'm excited they hired someone, i was worried they wouldn't. The kid Moore i thought did a good job too, i read he will be covering IU basketball on the paper which is cool, but you can't just slap "insider" on anybody and expect people to pay to read that coverage.

I was referring to the tweet by Dustin that you posted stating that Indy Star wasn't sending anybody to Brooklyn and was being covered by some NJ reporter. Maybe i misunderstood the tweet, seemed to me he was calling the Indy Star cheap.

Just learned the long time Butler beat reporter David Woods is leaving the Star too. I'm turning off auto-renew on my subscription.

Ah. I think Dustin was just stating the fact of what was happening/who was covering it live. I was the one that said they were being cheap. He may think it, but I haven't seen him publicly state anything like it.
